Displayed lap time vs. log

Post by a.johnsson »

Hi,

tried Harrys LapTimer for the first time today. It displayed the lap time each time I was crossing
the start/finish line. Just one problem I recognised afterwards, all laptimes in the log is approx. 3 seconds
slower than the time I was given during the race. Which is the correct time, the time I was given during race
or the times in the log? If it´s something wrong with the log, what can I do about it? :?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

In case your GPS reception has been good, the LapTimer times recorded will be within the range outlined in the "Numbers, Numbers, Numbers" thread here on the forum.

So the question is which "log" do you refer to and where do you get your comparison times from?

The log i refer to is the one in HLT, picture below.

At a first look at the track in POI setting it looks ok, but a close up you could see that
there is a missing route at start/finish. Could this be a problem? The time was compared
with a laptimer from Demon Tweeks where I had put the beacon on the side wall against
the the start/finish line. The times where almost the same during race in the laptimer from
Demon Tweeks and in the phone. But not in the "log".

O.k., I understand. The times shown in the Lap List are the times that count. You should see exactly this times blinking once you have past the start / finish point. Anything before this blinking results are "running" values. Taking the driving direction into account, the last snapshot simply shows you were driving different lines in lap i and i+1. In case you zoom in more, the gap looks even bigger ;-) LapTimer always uses the perpendicular projection of the trigger to the line driven as the "real" position. So if you draw a line from the first point of the plot to the last one, you will see it crosses the trigger. So net net this is all fine and your times are those in the Lap List.
