"Storage <0 MB"

I pulled out my trusty iPhone 6 for my first race weekend, updated Harry's LapTimer in the ios App Store, and launched the app to make sure it was all working.

When I clicked on Race, I got Overall Status: Not Ready.

When I clicked on Not Ready, I got the usual collection of green/yellow/red elements.

However "Storage <0 MB" was red This iPhone is ONLY used for laptiming and has NO video or photos on it. The available storage on the phone is 9.92GB. When I look at iPhone Storage in the Settings app, it says Harry's LapTimer is using 278.1 MB -- 65MB for the app and 213.1 for "Documents & Data".

I've tried hard resetting the phone. I've, again, redownloaded the app. The one thing I haven't done is delete the app and THEN redownload it. I don't want to lose my old lap times, but if that's what I have to do, so be it.

Can anyone help me tell the app that there's PLENTY of storage available on the phone?

There is a problem with reporting proper free memory values for older iOS versions. To work around, please disable the Low Memory warning in Administration / Settings / Expert Settings. The warning elements are way down on this screen.

I have already done that. (Screenshot attached). I think I had this problem before and so I already had this set up.

Hmm, can you please send a Contact Mail from LapTimer’s startup screen. Add a screenshot of the text Storage <0MB. It should at least change to a warning only once the Expert Setting is set.

While the red alert is disturbing and make you miss serious problems, it is really just a warning. LapTimer will work as usual, although it thinks it is low on memory.

I just sent you an email via the app Help button.

When I was at the track, when I pressed "Race" and then chose "Timer" the timer did not start up. My memory from last year is that the time starting counting as soon as I chose "Race" and then it would start a new lap when I exited the pits, went around the track and reached the Start/Finish line.

Yes, that’s the expected behavior. However, I assume this is some coincidence with the memory topic. The two crucial things for lap timing is good GPS accuracy and a proper track set loaded.

You can check by enabling Manual Timing in Settings. This will bring up Start / Stop Button logic in Timer View. Hit Start and see if a lap is recorded. Delete the recording afterwards.

I have done a complete investigation on memory management on iOS. There are actually three possible hardware / OS configurations

• iOS version before 11 - should be handled correctly already
• current iOS version - should be handled correctly already
• iOS 11/12 (and probably later but not current) - these report 0 bytes available in case free memory is used for internal OS caches

The last one is not handled correctly - or more accurate - is not worked around this iOS bug in every situation. Other than I thought, turning off the Low Memory warning does not turn off all checks. While it removes a warning when overlaying videos and mutes other messages, you still get a warning alert in Health Check. Furthermore, it indeed stops recording videos and cancels video copy operations in LapTimer including v24.9.0

I will release a bugfix release v24.9.1 shortly. Please keep in mind this will completely turn off storage checking which can result in all kinds of corruption and problems. So please check free space available in your iPhone Settings app regularly.
