+ button on head phones

Post by Josh7owens »

on the Iphone 4s you can start and stop video with the + button on the head phones. I and serveral other autocross guys think you should enable this to start and stop recording for our autocross runs. We could start it before we took off and then stop it after going through the line.

Also another thing would be to start and stop it normally but be able to edit out the begaining and ends of the data so that it only have the data from during the run.

I played around with my Iphone tonight at work and with the apple headphones using the apple camera app you can start and stop video by simply pressing the + button. I really think this needs to be included for starting and stopping your app. I would say 90% of the buyers of your product are autocrossers. The current set-up helped but i tend to find my self manually starting and stopping the run everytime because it misses runs every once in a while. Like 1 out of every 4 runs.

As of now I'm pulling up to the line, starting the camera and then getting back in the car before I take off. This is a real time constraint and sometimes pisses off the starters. Adding this feature would solve 95% of all the issues us autocrossers have with the program.

Other nice features to have would be-

- obd2 code reading through plx unit
- editing of data to which you can delete some of the start and finish and it will change the time for example- if I start the video and take off 10 seconds later, be able to edit out the 10 seconds.

I also vote for a physical button.

I use the program for soapbox racing ( serious stuff, dont you laugh... ;) )

My problem is that if the start is quite flat - as we haven't got any engine - my standing start acceleratioin is very low and usually doesn't triger the "standing go" until some meters later.
If the start has a nice downhill slope, the accelerometer gets fooled because of this slope ant it thinks that I'm accelerating even when I'm still stopped, and it triggers the "standing go" too soon.

So usually I have to start manually. And when touching the screen in the start it's easy to accidentaly push the wrong button ( in the worst moment ). I would prefer some physical button.

After that, if the slope is OK we reach max speeds of 130 Km/h - 80 mph...

Yes, your machine looks quite dangerous! Do they have brakes (only after having passed the finish line)? Really nice, like that :-)

You are probably aware LapTimer has a setting named 'Manual Timing' that brings back the Go and Stop buttons from older versions. Today, these buttons are available in Classic View only - as it matches the association you have when looking to a stopwatch. Switching the named setting ON will not only add these buttons to all timer views again, but will exchange the small buttons in the top left of the Video View by large centered buttons too. Hope you will like it - in version 16.0 (don't ask for release dates please).

Yes, we have 4 hydraulic disc brakes, and we use it very often in twisty roads.. ;)

Thanks for the info about the buttons.

Maybe the SIRI way could be even easier as an option for manual triggering: just having an iphone headphone + speaker set and launching the start saying "START", the finish by "STOP" and intermediate sectors by "LAP" would be just great...

Siri is currently not available as a versatile service to app programmers. It is for Apple's use only.
Otherwise it would be pretty easy to e.g. name the time driven and things like that.

Blimey, that looks fun, in a dangerous way! Think I'll stick to cars!
Nice site by the way.
