XGPS160 - sometimes 1 Hz sometimes 10 Hz (v20 - iOS 9.3.1)
XGPS160 - sometimes 1 Hz sometimes 10 Hz (v20 - iOS 9.3.1)
Hi, I'm using an XGPS160 with my iPhone 6S running iOS 9.3.1 and HLT v20.
I have found that my session data sometimes ends up being 1 Hz instead of 10 Hz. Nothing changes in setup -- the phone is hardwired, the GPS battery is charged. This can happen at the same track on the same day. Three out of four session might be 10 Hz and one of the four will end up being 1 Hz. It's kind of frustrating since everything shows up as green/ready when I'm in the pits.
Is there something I'm doing wrong and is there something I can check in the pits before heading out on track to verify that I'm going to get 10 Hz sampling?
Thanks.

In my experience, 1Hz means that it's switched back to the internal GPS. You can touch the bar at the top of the screen in Timer mode and get a display that will tell you whether it's using the Dual or the iPhone GPS.

Seems that's not the case with my issue. The lap analysis shows external GPS source.
Any ideas?

You've exceeded my limitations. Harry will have to help with this.

I should add that I sometimes try putting the phone in airplane mode then switching Bluetooth on so that it's guaranteed that only the external GPS will be used. This doesn't seem to help (nor exacerbate) the problem.

What version of the firmware is on the XGPS160? You need the Skypro app to find out. If it's an old version of the firmware, it will give you the option to update.

I checked the firmware last week and it is the current version.
Is there a way to check when staged in the pits what the GPS rate is when in video preview mode before heading out on the track?

Video Preview has the same status gadget like other views usable while driving. It will not show you an update rate but the sensor connected and a status whether it is above the minimum expected level. Using Video View will driving should be not necessary (or useful) since v20 by the way. It is really just about setting videos configuration and checking the field of view. You can enable video recording in Video Operation now and leave the dialog with "Done". This will have video active in background.

Hi Harry. Same problem today. One session got 10hx z and the second session captured at 1hz. Both show external GPS and both had the phone in airplane mode with only Bluetooth enabled.

I'm sorry, but I can't help here. LapTimer falls back to the internal GPS in case it gets a "disconnected" notification for the XGPS accessory from iOS. This is due to lower level connection issues (BT, WiFi, etc). I'd not goto Airplane mode as iOS does not clearly document what exactly is not available and if selective enabling of BT etc has a reliable effect for all versions and all phone models.
