Confused about video

Post by freeride »

New user!
Android, v19.0.23, Petrolhead edition.

I've very confused when attempting to select a lap video to process/overlay/save. Here's my problem:

I go to 'analysis', ->'lap list'. And then I select a lap that has a video.

Under Video, preview, there's a preview still-shot of a video.
I select 'preview', which drills down into another view, and shows yet a DIFFERENT still-shot of a video.
I select that video, which then drills down and starts playing the video of yet a DIFFERENT video (that doesn't match the preview shot).

3 different views of what I would hope to be the same video, but all different previews, and none matching the actual video.

What am I doing wrong? Or do I really have to drill all the way down 3-levels to know what's in the vid?

There is no reason the video displayed is wrong. Please keep in mind LapTimer records session videos, not lap videos. So selecting e.g. lap 3 from a 10 lap session will display a 10 lap video with a thumbnail selected depending on the view you watch it from. In case you are in Video View (i.e. the view presenting the full view), you will see a thumbnail from the beginning of the session - not the lap.

But this is actually too complicated already. In case you want to see a video of a *lap*, select the lap from Lap List, press Overlay (not Preview) and create an overlaid video of this lap. This will not only add gauges but extract the lap section from the full session video.

Thanks Harry.

So the bottom line is YES, I must drill all the way down and play the video at the lap level before I know what a particular lap looks like? (Taking the time to create the overlay of a lap just to see what's contained in the lap video would take even more time.)

UPDATE: Ok, I just realized something. Using PREVIEW, no matter what lap I select, I see the exact same location (time) in the video. It looks like I MUST overlay before I know what's contained in that lap? That's very painful.

I have added a direct play of video sections for a specific lap to my feature request list. Here is how to work with the current version:

1) Select the video preview from any lap and scroll to zur bottom of Video Details:

2) Looking into the sample you see we have a session video with two laps associated. The first one starts at 0 and ends at 3:11.27. The second starts at 3:11.27 and ends at 6:17.13

3) In case you want to watch lap 2, start video playback and move the play position to 3:11.27

I'm doing something very wrong, there's a bug, or something's out of sync.
So I added overlay to all laps of a session, 11 laps total.
If I select a lap in the lap list, it shows lap #13 of 25 for example. But the video for that same lap (that I just created a lap overlay for) says "lap #36 of 40".

Some overlay videos are starting mid-track rather than at start-finish line.
One lap video that I created an overlay for lasted 4 seconds.
Lap list doesn't match preview doesn't match overlay.

So you have probably changed sync points manually? Anyway, to correct this, select the video from Video List. Scroll to the bottom with the list of laps. Touch the first or the last lap (or any lap you can identify in the video) and select the end of the lap in the video shown. When asked, agree to adjust all sync points for laps covered by the video, this will make all laps have the correct sync point too.

PS Revert your laps to raw videos before doing this. This is necessary for laps overlaid already.
