Getting Video turned on iPhone 5s
I'm a new user so apologies if this is an obvious 'miss' . I've read the Video instructions and have HLT v 18.3.6 Petrolhead edition loaded. going to the track Sat and Sun and I want to video my drives. On the HLT app the video symbol on the top of the screen has a red X over it. I go to timer screen and when I push the video button I get a system status screen up which tells me that there is no track nearby and that video is yellow with a question mark. It says I have to go to the Video button in the timer view to turn it on. But that's where I was, I think? Help:?
thx

Hi,
The red cross simply means video is inactive. It is getting activated by entering the video view and either staying there or leaving this screen using "Record Auto" (which turns on video background recording. The red warning on track nearby means there is no match between track sets loaded and your current position. It is not related to video recording at all. You either need to load a track set or drive to your track first
I have no idea on a yellow video status while in Video View. Please try again and post a snaphot in case you can reproduce it.

Re: Getting Video turned on iPhone 5s
Ok. I'm in London right now but flying to Austin Tx Thursday and driving on the Circuit of the Americas Saturday and Sunday. I used HLT Petrolhead version about a month ago there (it was great ! ) but without video connected. This time I want to do video and OBD (I have a Vdata kiwiwifi OBD that seems to connect to HLT but it does kick up some notes about refresh speed too slow...?). I am trying to test the video and see if I can get it to work.
We also have a Gopro Hero at work that I could try to use if it is better for video - last trip it was having trouble synching with my iPhone 6 but I think I have someone in the office that can make it work tomorrow.
So I loaded the COTA track set and then I hit the Timer button bottom left to go to timer view and I see the video camera icon on the top row. I thought that was the way to turn on video but when I hit this it just kicks up the System Status screen and on this screen the Video is in yellow and says to go to timer screen and turn it on?
Am I missing something or is there another 'video' button in the timer view? Or do I need to be at the track ? (when the system status screen comes up the GPS update rate is red - I'm indoors at moment, The Calibration is red, and the Track Nearby is red).
How do I test the video without being a the track? Sorry to be dumb... just a newbie with your great App !

Re: Getting Video turned on iPhone 5s
Harry,
Just to be clear, I went to 'Guide' and 'Load Track' and loaded COTA details. I then push Start Driving. I go to the timer screen by pushing bottom left icon 0.00 Timer. At top of screen is a video camera with a Red X through it. I push that and get the System status screen open up. This shows video in yellow and says to go to video screen to turn it on. Screens attached.
Do I need to be at the track to activate video?
Is there a way to test it ahead of time?
thx !

Re: Getting Video turned on iPhone 5s
You can't test using the COTA track set unless you're at COTA. It's easy, though, to create a basic track set on surface streets for testing purposes. Open the Guide wizard from the More menu, touch New Track and follow the instructions. Once you have a start/finish line defined, the Track Nearby bar should be green and you can drive a few laps at legal speeds and see the results.
Re: Getting Video turned on iPhone 5s
The button for the video mode is only available / visible in landscape mode (because it makes no sense to video in portrait mode), once you're in the video mode you can choose between staying in the video view while on track or activating the video background recording, giving you the possibility to see the timer view while on track. At that point, the red cross on the camera should be gone.R8Maverick wrote:Harry,

Re: Getting Video turned on iPhone 5s
That's the point. The Video button is a large blue one in the bottom of Timer View (just like Reset/Set/Guide in your screenshot). It becomes available in landscape and after the tab bar slides out. The later will be changed in the next major release - the moving tab bar is sometimes counter intuitive...

Re: Getting Video turned on iPhone 5s
Harry,
Thanks. I got it to work creating a local track. Do I need the Grand Prix edition to video on a Go Pro Hero and use the Go Pro video in place of iPhone video ?
thx

Re: Getting Video turned on iPhone 5s
GP adds the feature to remote control a GoPro. This will start and stop the cam in sync with LapTimer lap sessions. NB: the current version triggers a HERO *on top* of the internal video, not instead. I usually recommend to use all the LapTimer features step by step. Step 1: use LapTimer without video, step 2: use LapTimer including the internal cam, step 3: adding external accessories (including GoPro). Please check http://www.gps-laptimer.com/LapTimerDoc ... hapter.pdf for all the details.

Re: Getting Video turned on iPhone 5s
Thanks. I printed the full video instructions and was just verifying GP was needed. I have identified an issue though, my Vdata OBD port wifi device uses wifi to communicate with the iPhone, so does the Gopro. I guess I will only be able to use one or another unless I buy an OBD port device that communicates via Bluetooth right? thx
