Not to dig up an old thread, but I'm having the same challenge with wanting to do all my edits in Premiere. I found an app that would allow me to take an edited video out of Premiere and overlay the gauges and GPS data, but it's only available for Windows.

I would like to vote for the chromakey feature, as well. It would be ideal to be able to pick the color to use for the background using an RGB or hex value (black may not work on all occasions). Premiere (and presumably other editors) have tools that would allow recovering the transparency. Here's an example I found on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUxRQ9O1dag

The only thing that wouldn't give us is the ability to use custom gauges ... but you can't have everything!

Thanks for all the hard work on this app. I just found it the other day and didn't expect nearly this much functionality. Amazing. I am super excited to start logging data at the track this weekend.

Since you chose this thread, maybe you should take a closer look at what rexcel did with his video. For Laptimer it's a far better approach than blue or green screen. Green screen won't work because the dots in the overlay are green too or you would have to do some additinal masing for that, blue screen works but has also some side effects with the red corner speeds messages when fading in and out.

There are a number of codecs that do support an alpha channel. The "tell" is that they have a 32-bit mode.
An alternative would be to render two video files, one with the gauges and one greyscale file with the alpha channel only.

Thinking out loud, I wonder if Motion or Final Cut could import the quartz composition...
