Video Overlay to Green/Bluescreen
I use my Mac to edit my videos in 1080p and would love to be able to export the video overlays from Laptimer in a format that I can use to overlay in iMovie. I have tried creating my own greenscreen background to for laptimer to overlay the graphics onto with the intention of then using that video in iMovie, but the software always hangs. It would be great if the programme could just do this itself on either a blu, green or transparent background.
Thanks
Thanks

Hi,
I have not yet found a satisfying solution for this. The issue is, transparency is not supported for video formats I know. Blueboxing is an approach but does not allow the "half transparency" LapTimer generates for the dashboard gadgets. In case anyone with a strong video editing background has an idea, highly appreciated.

Re: Video Overlay to Green/Bluescreen
Thanks for the rapid answer.
On a totally unrelated topic, but it still is a feature request, it would be really useful to have a very basic delta screen for when running on track with maybe just a big Red/Green marker for slower/faster, a single large font time difference and then the laptime flashing in a large font on the start finish. I was at the track yesterday and I still find it hard to make out the delta details when trying to quickly look down to my ipod.

That is what the Timer view is intended for. My plan is to provide most of the views in landscape (including Timer view) in the next version. This will allow me to add background video recording for views like the Timer later. For video recording, the iPhone always needs to be in landscape for obvious reasons. Today's video view is good to get an impression of how the vid will look like, but it is not really suited for racers

Hi Harry, maybe I can help youHarry wrote:I have not yet found a satisfying solution for this. The issue is, transparency is not supported for video formats I know. The solution is very simple. Only create the video with the display info (like before, but all colors pure white), but without the video layer. Use simple black background. That it is.
The user can use this video in a video editing software and as a layer 'over' a other video (e.g. a separate video from a GoPro Hero). The overlay is to configure in video software to "negative multiply".
I create a picture to illustrate. Upper the possible video from Harrys Laptimer and below the video from external camera with laptimer-overlay.

Re: Video Overlay to Green/Bluescreen
Yes, understood. Problem is this generates overlays without transparency - which should be the goal of any extension added. For solid colors, it can be done like you proposed.

Re: Video Overlay to Green/Bluescreen
Why don't you guys use the export function together with something like Dasware, Trackvision or Racerender? Or am I missing the point?
Re: Video Overlay to Green/Bluescreen
I found this video of a guy doing exactly what has been asked here. He basically logs with the camera of the iPhone taped so he gets the overlay with a black background and then uses Adobe Premiere to merge with the external video using the screen filter. That way he also gets the transparency of the overlay:

Re: Video Overlay to Green/Bluescreen
Didn't know it was him...if you ask me, it's basically about what the single person is capable of doing / willing to do with the adequate software. It's a good workaround but if you start thinking of it: recording videos with taped lenses??? I still think people should use the export functions and some software on PC / Mac...all of those overlaying tools are so much less expensive than Adobe Premiere and easier to use.
