Howdy All -
I'm trying to synchronize video (originally from a dashcam, but sent through final cut pro,) with laps on an Android device.
I am having trouble finding a format that lap timer grand prix can use hardware accelerated overlay with.
What is the preferred video format for Android 6+ devices?
So far, I've tried exporting in Apple Devices 1080p format.
LapTimer does not recognize it at all unless I rename it from .m4v to .mp4.
If I rename, I can import, play, and sync with laps, but when I try to export overlay I get "Master video either is not available, or misses the video or audio track. Please check Video List for alternatives or download."
If I set "Force Software Encoding" in the expert settings, I can successfully export, but it takes forever.
Nexus 5 and Nexus 6, Android 6.0.1, LapTimer v20.2.4
Any help would be appreciated.
Android Preferred External Video Format?
Re: Android Preferred External Video Format?
The format used mostly is a .mp4 file with a H.264 encoded video and an AAC audio track. Renaming a file extension doesn't change the encoding, so a full decoding / encoding is required to change the format. .m4v is similar to .mp4 but will have additional information. Try Handbrake to convert it.
LapTimer's hardware accelerated overlaying is used for all devices running 5.1 or higher by default. It is a lot more picky with file formats compared to software encoding.
