Overlay issue with multiple GoPro files in one session
Overlay issue with multiple GoPro files in one session
Hi There,
I am having an issue trying to overlay two GoPro files that were created for one session due to the 4Gb SD card limit on the GoPro. I would like to overlay the entire session (about 40 minutes) using both videos. I haven't been able to find a solution on the forum or online. Is there a recommendation on how to handle this scenario?
I thought about trying to overlay each video based on the laps separately, but the first video actually stops in the middle of a lap, and the next video picks up at that point, so that solution didn't work quite so well for me.
Thanks'

Re: Overlay issue with multiple GoPro files in one session
You need to splice the two videos with an editor on a PC. I think there are free ones that will do the job. You'll need massive amounts of free memory on your device, though.

Any suggestions or recommendations on a good free editor/splicer? I found a few online before I made this post, and they all seem to come with malware. Also, will LapTimer recognize the new spliced/stitched files? Anything special that needs to be done with the new files like modify metadata or file names?

Windows Movie Maker has malware? I know it's not listed as being compatible with Windows 10 yet, but, as far as I know, still works.

Tried windows movie maker first, it corrupted the video and the quality ended up worse than standard definition.

Movie Maker or Movie Maker Live? From what I hear, there's a big difference. I do a lot of editing of recorded TV, so I went ahead and purchased VideoReDo. Configuration of video editors can also be tricky to be sure you're not changing the video format.

Have you tried the free GoPro mobile app Splice? It's available for Android and iOS.

Better yet, why not use the GoPro Studio software that came with your GoPro?
Export Videos > Merge the video into one file with software > import the merged file into HLT with iTunes > then overlay

Re: Overlay issue with multiple GoPro files in one session
So, I finally had some luck using Windows Movie Maker to merge the files. I uploaded to my iPhone, and linked the video to the first lap using the min:sec:100th sec for the first lap. I allowed HLT to adjust for all the other laps.
I checked to make sure the timestamps matched all the way to the very last lap (33+ mins), and that each lap had the video associated to it. However, avter numerous attempts, I can only get the overlay to work for the laps that were on the first video (of the two that I merged), even though the new video is the length of both put together.
I did rename the video, so I'll try to name the merged video the same as the FIRST GoPro video to see if it makes a difference. I still haven't been able to laptimer to overlay the last few laps of the merged video.

Re: Overlay issue with multiple GoPro files in one session
So, went with DashWare. Learned the hard way that it's better NOT to open .csv file exported by HLT in Excel, before adding it to the DashWare project, because it ruins the formatting. I was able to merge the two files and add the exported HLT overlay .csv file to create my full length video once I got the formatting issue figured out.
