LapTimer, GoPro 4 and Recording issue

Post by bbong718 »

Hello, there, great software, just got my hands on it, while I was lurking at it a while back, there was no Android version available, now that it is, I jumped on it, however I was a bit disappointed as it did not record 3 sessions.

I would leave GoPro on and my phone connected to GoPro WiFi, when I went to the LapTimer I selected the outside source and it said connected to the GoPro Camera, awesome. First 2 sessions, it worked flawlessly, but on then 3rd session, eventho I confirmed that it always had an outside source of GoPro and it was connected, it did not turn on the camera for recording, it happened for the 4th and 5th session until I realized that it isn't recording. The telemetric data was recorded.

I disconnected the Phone from the WiFi, turned off WiFi on GoPro, started it again, connected with the phone and made sure LapTimer was also connected and seeing the camera, that fix worked, however that is a bit of misleading and disappointing that it did not turn on the camera recording.

This is in no way a complaint, knowing that Android version has only been available for a little while, but I hope the Developer (Harry) can address it in the future. Great product!

This is actually not due to the Android version but the HERO's power saving mode. The H4 goes into power saving mode silently when no traffic between an app and the device is going on for some minutes. It will still display a WiFi, but that's actually a fake. So when you pause LapTimer, the GoPro cannot be reconnected without powering it in manually. I'm aware of a workaround that wakes the device up through BT LE, but this is not yet implemented. Please have a look into Video Documentation (www.gps-laptimer.de/documentation) for more details.

I see, so basically I need to wake up the GoPro. Hope that the BE LE option will get implemented in the near future, at least I know what the issue is and the workaround. Thanks!
