"Checking databases" then crashes on iOS

Post by johnsopa »

Just spent a day at the track. Recorded fine and did some overlay exports. Was cleaning up some old lap data and now HLT won't start. I get "checking databases" and then HLT crashes. Latest version installed a couple days ago. Latest iOS on an iPhone 6S. Have reset phone a few times.

Any help?

Here's a screenshot. This shows for a few seconds then the app crashes.

Yes, that's the first bug discovered for v20 (see Known Issues FAQ). A fixed version is in review by Apple already. The problem occurs when LapTimer starts an automatic database check during startup. The check in turn crashes.

Two options: either wait for v20.0.1, or turn on Emergency Startup in LapTimer's Expert Setting (deep in the bottom of the list). You can access Expert Settings from iOS's Settings app. This option will force LapTimer to backup the current data and start up with a clean database. You can pull back your data once 20.0.1 is available but use LapTimer till then.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Oh, I didn't realize that FAQ applied -- I saw the Oct 2013 post date and didn't bother checking the version number in the known issue post.

How long does it normally take for Apple to complete the review and post the update?

Thanks!

Usually 7 working days. But the pattern one can see is that the app is 5 or 6 days in "Waiting for Review" and 1 or 2 days "In Review". As Apple moved 20.0.1 immediately to "In Review" here, it should be faster for 20.0.1 than usual.

Sounds good, thank you Harry.

Also, I might suggest that you put a "Date Updated" or similar text in the Known Issues FAQ -- or is there a way that the post date can be updated when you change the post?

Yes, it is possible to bump the post. This at least changes the last change date / time.

I'm having this same issue with the app crashing on startup. I have the latest version of iPod touch, running HLT GP v20.0.18. This was my first weekend using the iPod touch, I've used an iPhone for a few years, with no issues. Also my first time at this particular track, so I'd like to be able to access the data that was stored before the app became unresponsive. Your reply to the original post indicates that the problem was fixed in v20.0.1. Obviously, I'm beyond v20.0.1. Will I be able to retrieve my data if I do the emergency startup?

Yes, try the emergency startup. This will create a system backup for the current database and allow you to start with an empty database. You can try restoring a database from Administration ‣ Databases afterwards.
