No GPS data

Post by CornelS »

Hi Harry,

Running Gran Prix Edition (latest version) on an iPhone 6S with no external accessories.
My trackday last weekend resulted in a few laps with no GPS data or Plot available. How does this happen for some laps? My fastest lap (personal record) happens to be one of them, and I have no GPS data to export for analysis. Now I am not even sure that it was indeed an accurately timed lap and a personal best time either?

What can I do to prevent this in the future?

LapTimer has several health checks built in warning you about bad GPS conditions. Whenever you see a red or yellow alert in the status gadget in the top of the screen, tap it to see what the reason is. For GPS, these are some of the items verified:
  • GPS accuracy
  • GPS update rate (should be 1Hz for the internal device)
  • Magnetic Conditions (atmospheric disruptions)
The most common reason for GPS issues is bad position the smartphone is stored / mounted. Please check illustration #3 in LapTimer's Quick Reference for the details.
