Losing Video and laptimes
Losing Video and laptimes
in the last several track days I am losing video and laptimes when shutting off the session back in the pits - this never used to be a problem. I use an iphone5, GP edition, external powered cradle with Ram mount. The general settings are for autostart/stop. to shoot the video the phone has to be in landscape position. However, in the Timer view/landscape mode there is no button either turn on the video recording for that session or to stop the recording at the end of the session. so to begin the recording I first turn the phone to portrait mode, push the video button, turn the phone to landscape to insert into the cradle and then drive the session. The video is working. At the end of the session, there is no button in landscape mode to stop the video or to end the session, so I turn the phone back to portrait orientation and push the Cancel button. Net result is that no video is saved and all the lap times are lost for that session. What am I doing wrong to turn on the video and then to stop the video/session? is the change from landscape to portrait orientation causing the loss? how do I save the video/data in landscape as there is no button stop the video?
Re: Losing Video and laptimes
On the video button: it is available in landscape only - once the tab bar has been moved out. The latest versions of LapTimer does not have a video button in portrait any more - the space is required for other buttons and portrait is not a valid recording orientation for video anyway. So please first check if you have the latest LT version installed (18.3.6). Next, verify the Video button appears in landscape: goto Timer, rotate to landscape and wait until the tab bar slides out and reveals the button bar.
On Cancel etc: Cancel always purges the last (incomplete) lap, it does not purge laps finished by a stop trigger already. In case Cancel removed all recordings, it has most probably been one big (multi lap) recording? You can see the number of laps recorded any time by switching to Lap List, please verify the data the next time before pressing Cancel. It will not help a lot but at least verifies there is a problem with automatic detection of laps finished.
The later is typically an issue with bad GPS reception or missing / incomplete tracks sets... Which track set have you used lately?

Re: Losing Video and laptimes
I was using the previous LT version so just updated to 18.3.6. also discovered just now the Hide Tab Bar setting was switched off rather than on so the Tab Bar was hiding the buttons. curious as to why the Hide Tab Bar is an option rather than hard wired to slide out of the way? it seems like one of those feature options that is easy to get wrong (as I just found out). do users have a reason to switch it off and so hide the buttons?
I have been using a Dual 150 GPS but it is losing capacity to hold a charge so is shutting off during lapping sessions. If it shuts off, shouldn't the iphone GPS take over?
Was running the Thunderhill BYP track set

Re: Losing Video and laptimes
Yes, if the BT GPS shuts down, LapTimer should switch to the internal GPS. As both do not work with the same time system (GPS time vs system time), things can get screwed up nevertheless...
On the tab bar: when turning off Hide Tab Bar, you can move it in and out by touching the small arrows shown. The next major release will have the tab bar removed completely. It is too complicated
