Recording of GPS/acc/OBD independent of lap time

Hi,

I have a request (or maybe it is already possible?) for recording data and lap time independently.

I use the Dashware software package for overlaying Gopro videos with track data. To get some more atmosphere especially on Nordschleife videos, I start recording video already at the boom when I enter the track and stop it when I get back to the exit of the track. So this means that that the video is somewhat longer than the BTG recording of GPS, OBD, acceleration and lap time data by HLT.

Dashware, however, has the gauges in the overlay visible during the whole video. This means that for having a nice video with the pre- and post-lap part, I currently have to make 3 sections of video (pre-lap without data overlay, BTG lap with HLT data overlay and post-lap without data overlay) and merge them in the end by video editing software. This is feasible, but ideally I would also like to have HLT data in pre- and post-lap part of the video.

So, would it be possible to add a function that allows me to manually start and stop recording of the GPS, OBD and acceleration data in HLT, while the lap timer part still works automatically with GPS triggers defined in the HLT track layout? Something similar to the manual stop watch function, but purely for data.

Have you tried the manual timing setting in Settings/Behavior? That adds a start button to the timer page, but I've never tried to see if you still get times from the POI's.

The requirement is probably too special to make it a general option. The intro / extro options (Overlay Configuration) deliver something like this but certainly miss the acceleration and speed data. As you are aware, you need to start recording manually and select from the range between 0 and 20 seconds to get that intro and extro sections added to your video.

The multi lap overlay feature will probably help out once it gets available in v18: if you change the Gantry stop trigger to a stop/go trigger in NordschleifeBTG, add another stop trigger to the pits entry and start a manual recording ahead of the Bridge, you will actually get three "laps": the manual one from the pits to Bridge, the BTG lap from Bridge to Gantry, and another "lap" from Gantry back to the pits. In v18, you will select the "real" BTG lap, and add the "lap" before and behind to be included in the overlaid video. You will get some timing for the intro and extro, but that is the only difference to your requirement.

The idea to do capture a fake intro a fake outro lap by manual start and modifying the stop triggers will surely do the job for my purpose. Even without the multi-lap export feature, I can export the three laps separately and merge them into one csv-file that can be imported into Dashware. That is so much easier than messing around with several video files. Thanks for your support, guys, question answered and problem solved!

Pulling out an old topic ...
The intro/outro function that is implemented in the recent versions for overlaying videos works very well for my original request. But can you remove the 20 sec limit for intro or outro length, or at least extend it to say 180 sec?

Especially on Nordschleife, I'd like to catch some more of the atmosphere prior to the actual lap while driving from the parking to the boom gate and going on the track.
