Gear indicator

Post by crazycow »

Good evening,

I have just bought the LapTimer app and it fulfills my requirements.
However, as a motorcyclist, the feature mentioned in the subject would make the life much easier.
My guess is that the gear indicator can be realized through the combination of rpm and speed.

Please consider this feature in a next version of the app.
Thanks.

And it is already included in LapTimer - if rpm / speed / gear ratios / tire size is available. Problem is you need rpm - which is available through OBD II for cars, but only for a small portion of OBD compatible motorbikes.

Dear Harry,

Thank you for the quick and positive response!
Another question I have is the Speedo.
Is there a possibility to output a sound when a specific speed is passed?

Thank you in advance.

Dear Harry,

It takes me a lot of time to check the speed because my head is almost on the top of the gauge due to my sit position on the bike.
Combined with my insensitve feeling for the current speed, this feature might help a lot.

Before adding a feature it always makes sense to full understand the use case. May question has actually been on the "how?" such a speed would be set, and/or at "what speed" it would be set. I cannot think of any specific speed I'd like to know on track - it changes for every corner. Adding e.g. a "standard" speed of 100mph as a "marker" does not make to me much either? In case I do not reach it, I don't know where I am, and in case I achieve it, it will be changed a few seconds after... In addition this is for motorbikes and would limit use to those with some audio connection (you do not hear anything otherwise).

Dear Harry,

First of all, wow, you response very quickly!
And you are correct, it wouldn't make any sense if the speed sound is set in a globally manner.

My thought was an ability to set a specific speed for each POI and assign different sounds for each delta in both positiv and negative direction.
For example, I know that the beginning of the corner can be passed at 30 km/h, but due to the lack of skills I spend my whole concentration on braking and changing the gear, and especially checking the current speed.
If such an option exists, I can hear from the sounds that whether I am 5 km/h slower or faster, so I don't have to look down and lost time and concentration.
I know that advance drivers don't really need such a feature, but I think it would help a lot to improve the training on the track.

Regarding the audio, I already tried a BT headset (simple Nokia where you can plug in your own head set) in combination with the helmet and it works.
