(Apologies in advance if this is already answered. Couldn't find the answer.)
I recently shot a bunch of video (@ Calabogie) on a couple of GoPros while also gathering lap time data with HLT Rookie - I've since upgraded to Premium.
Is it possible to have HLT export video of just the overlay data? I'd like to overlay it manually on top of my edited multi-cam footage (in my video editor).
Thanks in advance for any help.
Exporting only Data Overlays
Re: Exporting only Data Overlays
Hi,
Please check the section "External Overlaying and Overlaying External Sources" in http://www.gps-laptimer.com/LapTimerDoc ... hapter.pdf to get the options available to overlay external video. Actually you may export recorded data to CSV and use TrackVision or Dashware to overlay that data to your GoPro video, or you transfer a iPhone compatible video (created from your GoPro video) to your iPhone, link that video to a lap, and use LapTimer's great overlay features to add overlays to your footage.

Re: Exporting only Data Overlays
Hi Harry.
Thanks for the quick reply. And the amazing app.
So it sounds like I can't do my own compositing. I'm a professional video editor and compositor, and so I was hoping to be able to export just a video file (layer) with data graphics to them overlay on my edit.
It sounds like all the options you present have either the PC application (I'm on Macs, and don't want Windows on my machines) do the compositing automatically, or as you mention, re-compress the video into an iPhone friendly format to them let HLT do the compositing automatically as well.
The iPhone method might be ok, but it seems like there's a couple issues:
1) additional time to re-compress the footage for the iPhone
2) image quality loss due to re-compressing footage for the iPhone (1 compress in GoPro, 2 compress to iPhone, 3 compress for the final composite, 4 compress to final delivery method [ex: youtube] - that's many steps of image quality loss).
Is it possible for me to give HLT a "blank" video of just a solid color, that's the same time length as the real footage, and then have HTL overlay the data graphics on that, then use that export as a layer in my edit (keying out the solid color for a clean composite)?
Or does HTL analyze the content of the image in the video to sync the data with the video?
I great feature in new version might be for an option to export data graphics on a video layer with an alpha channel, so it could be cleanly overlayed later manually.
Thanks very much for your help and hard work on the app.
