I've used LapTimer successfully several times at autocross events, but I ran into a problem yesterday because the staging area was much farther away from the start sensor than normal (the designer of the course wanted to save everyone's clutches).
As a result, when when I got to the staging area, LT would not display the staging button. I finally figured out that I could fix this by dragging the true start location closer to the staging area, but doing so introduced a larger discrepancy between LT recorded times and the actual times.
Is there any other way to handle this situation?
Also, under ideal conditions, how close can LT recorded times match official times? Are there setting that impact this?
Thanks,
Deven
Autocross staging and starting line
Re: Autocross staging and starting line
I just discover LapTimer's assistant is probably misleading here... The text should actually be To create your custom autocross track, walk to the staging area and press the 'Set' button, not To create your custom autocross track, walk to the starting line and press the 'Set' button. LapTimer will use a standing go trigger here that fires once the area is left accelerating. So timing starts whens you start to move move - not on the starting line.
In case you find an AX like yours, with the staging area far off the starting line, please use regular triggers: set the starting point to the starting line this time (not the staging place) and complete the AX setup. Once this is done, navigate to Lap List, scroll to the new AX, select the "POIs+Triggers" row, select the Start trigger, change its type from "Standing Go" to "Go". Now you have a regular position based triggering set up.
