oil temperature not recorded

Post by striker187 »

recently got the GoPoint BT1. I have a iPhone 4S and am running the most recent version of HLT Petrolhead. I'm using the stopwatch to test the datalogging on the street before I head to the track. I found that my oil temperature isn't recording for some reason. it just shows zeroes. any reason why? I have a 2008 mazdaspeed3, flashed with a Cobb Accessport if that helps any.

also, am i correct in assuming that the MAP units is bar?

Most probably your car's OBD diagnostic gateway does not provide oil temperature (EOT, 0x015c). Same for my car by the way... As this PID seems to be not mandatory for emission testing, many manufacturers do not pass it on from their bus. You may check the OBD sensor's technical information to see which PIDs are supported and which are not:
  • with your OBD connected and the engine running, select your vehicle from Vehicle List
  • scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will see a section named "OBD"
  • this section is available while OBD is active only!
  • you will see all commands supported by your car, those requested by LapTimer have a reply time in brackets in addition
MAP (0x010b) comes as a value between 0 and 255 kPA (absolute). In LapTimer's export it appears as 0.00 to 2.55 bar. 100 kPA means neutral, i.e. pressure is the same as the environmental pressure. Values above 100 are "boosted", values below 100 are actually "under pressure"

Harry, I notice that HLT requests the vehicle speed from the OBD dongle. Does this replace the GPS speed on the overlay when available?

Yes, as long as GPS speed is lower than 255km/h. OBD speed is limited to that value.

Just a quick question in this Harry.

When using a none apple approved OBDkey I can't get this to show? Is it OBD specific?

I use dashcommand which picks up many PIDs so I know there will pass from the vehicle but I don't get an additional option when connected to it with HLT.

Thanks

The wifi OBDKey will show in LapTimer's Sensor list and needs no approval. In case you have that one, it actually should work for you. In case your car is a BMW or Lotus - there are known problems with v17's communication. The fixes will be available in 17.0.3 and are submitted to Apple already. The BT OBDKey cannot be connected to the iPhone as it requires certification but has none.

I see, i'm using ELM327 via roqybt to a Renault so it may be that. I'm more than happy but just wandered if it was OBD specific.

Cheers

The OBD PID display does not depend on the OBD dongle used. LapTimer kind of displays its current OBD parsing state - including all available PIDs reported by the car, and reply times for those values have actually been requested. The display is available while having the OBD connected only.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'll try again later and I'm on track tomorrow for the first time this year so got all day to play with it.

Thanks again
