Hi there,
Recently purchased the lap timer for my Android phone to compare against Trackaroos Trackmaster.
Heard great things from iphone owning friends and the support and updates seem great.
At the same time I decided to purchase an external GPS receiver. As I wanted as much accuracy as possible as it is for a race car.
Now I don't know if this is a phone issue or an issue with the app. But I can not get the app to connect to the qstar GPS.
I pair the GPS with the phone as normal. There is no issues or delays when doing this.
Once in the app I select bluetooth devices of which it displays the Qstar GPS. It asks me if I want to connect a GPS or OBD device. GPS selected.
It then pairs the device again and asks me for the password key again. After that is entered it says it is searching and after about 30 seconds it says the device is unavailable.
I then went to check if this occurs on Trackmaster. But they charge to be able to use an external GPS. So screw them. So many extra transactions for basic functions.
I really hope to get this app working.
Thanks,
Dan

Unable to connect to QStar BT-Q818XT on Android Sony LT22i
Re: Unable to connect to QStar BT-Q818XT on Android Sony LT2
Hi,
This looks like an Android / OS related issues. LapTimer does not pair BT devices itself. Instead it presents and connects to paired devices only. Which Android phone and version do you use? The BT connection area is often customized by smartphone manufacturers and behaves different depending on the phone's brand... As LapTimer presents the GPS in Sensor List / selection of BT devices, Android reports the GPS to be paired at this time. When connecting, it seems to run in an error condition reflected by the new request for pairing.
Please try the following steps:
1) Remove the device from Sensor List (long press the row)
2) Switch to Settings / Expert Settings, scroll down to GPS Tweaks, and tick the "Force Insecure BT Connection"
3) Change to Android Settings and remove the GPS from the paired BT devices
4) Turn off / on both the smartphone and the GPS
5) Pair the GPS again
6) Start LapTimer, goto Sensor List and add the GPS again
Please let me know if you can resolve the issue using the steps above.
- Harry
P.S. Just saw the device is a Sony, please add the Android version.

Hi Harry,
Thanks for the reply. After following your steps the device connected instantly and working as it should.
Thank you very much for your support.
For future reference the phones details are
Sony Xperia P (LT22i)
Android 4.1.2
While continuing to look for resolutions yesterday I also found this phone starting having Bluetooth problems similar to this for many people when they updated to 4.1.2.
Looking forward to using your product. And really looking forward to the future releases to suite my racing.
Thanks,
Dan

Re: Unable to connect to QStar BT-Q818XT on Android Sony LT2
Happy to hear.
I assume it requires this "Insecure BT connection" setting... Please do me the favor and send a mail from within LapTimer to me (using the Contact button in the About / Info dialog). I have a list of device types requiring this insecure thing included in LapTimer. As it is never complete, I've added this setting. The contact note above include the model identifier (probably "LT22i") I need to add the Xperia to the list, thanks! Please add a remark "Insecure BT connection" so I can recognize the mail.

Yes it was the Insecure BT connection setting that solved the issue.
Sent you an email as requested just now.
Thanks,
Dan
