OBD data missing

Post by Peter Voigt »

Hi again

Last trackday I tried out a wifi OBD. It worked great and I could see RPM and gear selection while driving. Later when I go to LapTimer and review the laps I dont see any OBD/RPM data nor when I export to VBO.

Is OBD only for video overlay or should I do anything special for OBD data to be saved and exported to VBO

Thank you

Peter

Whenever an OBD dongle is connected while recording, the data delivered is stored together with GPS data. So in case OBD values (RPM etc) are not available in data recordings or exports, there has been a connection issue while recording. What car / OBD dongle / LapTimer version / iOS version did you use?

Hi Harry

We will just have to verify again that no RPMs are recorded and get back to you.

Hi!
(Hope this is not a hijack)
I observed the same problem.
I am using the android version of Harry's Lap Timer. Vehicle is Corvette C6.
I am using a Bluetooth ELM 327 OBDII dongle. I verified I am getting OBD data using another App, (Torque)
I then ensured the dongle was connected with Harry's Lap Timer, and see the OBD symbol in the bottom right of the screen.
Is there another way to confirm data connectivity? The CSV file was blank for RPM or other OBD data.

Please check you get OBD data at all by selecting the Sensor List. You should see your OBD dongle in state "Connected" with an update rate "@ x Hz" to its right. In case you see "Connected" but no update rate, the continuous dialog between the OBD dongle and LapTimer is not active (usually an incompatibility). In this case we need to check the dialog like described in viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1500

Please note that LapTimer expects OBD sensors connected to implement the ELM327 protocol according to the spec. There are several cheap copies around that miss features LapTimer relies on to tweak high update rates.
