Problems with Calibration...

Post by Horstair »

I've read the posts on "past" calibrations and also the online manual but cannot find a concise answer.
For the first time since I've used Harry's (I have v17.5.1, IPod Touch 4th Gen and XPS 150), my last lap at Sonoma the other day did not record/show acceleration data (video okay). I remember it showing "RED" when I pushed the red triangle in video view just before the session. When I pressed on the red "calibration" rectangle, all it said "need fix" or s.th. like that. I had no time to figure it out, went ahead and did my track session and when I came back I had no data in the "graph section -Linear etc. Acceleration but only "speed", the first page. When I did the "recalc" on one of the laps it brought back the red/green markings for the track and also in the graph section.
What happened here? I didn't change my mount but surely moved my Ipod around a bit. Never had that problem. After I "re-calibrated" it using the menu "acceleration" in portrait mode on my street with the XPS 150 connected, it went to all four green check marks. BUT when I hit the little red triangle in video mode while recording a short video on a drive it was orange/yellow (but showed acceleration data in the graphs). When will it turn "green"? When I'm on a linked race track? Or is my IPod kaputt? Or is there s.th. I need to do in Laptimer? I'm going to track this weekend again and I would like it to work. One more thing: If it happens again, can you "force" calibration under "acceleration? Or just hitting the bullseye in the video mode?
It's just so confusing and that red triangle wasn't there before I updated to 17.5.1. Oh yeah, and it won't overlay my laps either, stops at 88% processed and defaults to my home screen for a 2 minute video and 7GB memory left on my IPod. All that since 17.5.1. :-((((

Problems with Calibration...

The triangle on top of the screen is a new feature introduced in 17.5. It's a system health check, providing info and help on how to troubleshoot problems. Once you touch it you will see different colored tags providing further info.
The bars left to the triangle are the GPS reception quality. They change color depending on how good the GPS fix is at the moment. No GPS fix, no automatic recording on track based on POIs.
The only thing you can calibrate are the g-forces by touching the graphic in the bottom left corner of the video view.
Take a closer look at the tags in the heLth check, they really provide good info on how to solve issues.

As Bulls wrote, this is an addition feature sind 17.5. It is just a warning / hint something is wrong, no new functionality. So it is simply a hint on an issue you wouldn't have seen in older versions. Missing calibration almost always is related to changing orientation while already driving. When mounting the device / selecting orientation while in the pits and standing still, the system will calibrate itself mostly.

In rare cases you need to recalibrate the acceleration sensor manually, you can either touch the acceleration circle in Video View, or touch the Max G gadget available in Timer view, GPS View etc.
