Can I Pair GoPro Wifi and Use as Primary Camera, Not PiP?

Post by Dubbedown »

I know with the latest update, there are many GoPro threads so I apologize if this topic has been covered. I think the ability to pair iPhone + HLT + GoPro is a GREAT feature for picture-in-picture (PIP) purpose. BUT what if I did NOT want PIP, and instead use GoPro as PRIMARY video, is it then possible to control GoPro from HLT?

I know video recording with iPhone is simplest solution but I find video recording 1) consumes battery resource and 2) is distracting when I drive. Instead I want to use the phone purely for data acquisition (out of my sight) and use the GoPro as primary video recorder (installed behind me). So back to my original question, is it possible to control GoPro with HLT as Primary camera, so it still automatically starts/stops recording based on HLT triggers?

Also side question - I have not had chance to play around with GoPro PIP, but when you later access files off GoPro's sd card... does each session have ONE large video file, or does GoPro create a file for each lap? The latter would make overlaying much easier since you do not have to splice video and match starting/end points...

With v17, LapTimer controls MultiCams from within LapTimer's Video View only. This will be changed in v18 - allowing both background video recording, and "GoPro" only mode. In case you do not plan to use the iPhone video, select lowest video resolution available - this will save space and battery (FullHD requires considerable more power than SD).

The GoPro video has the same timing like the internally recorded video (full session). The good news is LapTimer stores the sync point to the right section in the GoPro video. Please follow the instructions in the video documentation to transfer the GoPro video to your iPhone. This will preserve the GoPro sync point. In addition, you need to change the order for internal and GoPro video in Lap Details ahead of overlaying. Move the GoPro video up and it will be used as the master.
