Lap Timer Pro works very well some of the time

Post by telemark1029 »

Hi I am a newbie. I have had HLT for almost a year. It works great some of the time. I have an open vintage car, and mount it behind me, trying to get video and lap times. It works great when it works, but doesn't always work. For example, I was at Chuckwalla this past weekend, it worked great on Friday test, but didn't work at all for my sessions on Saturday or Sunday. I don't know what I am doing wrong and would like some help please...

Difficult to answer with the information given. Question is what "doesn't always work" mean? In case it means it does not record laps, please check this post: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2 first. Please let me know if that helps or if you need additional assistance.

Thanks for the reply Harry. I read through the previous post, and I am not sure it helped, although it gave me a few things to check next time I go to the track. It's a week after I used it last, so I don't know how valid this is, but there is no exclamation mark next to Chuckwalla. There is one next to Auto Club Speedway, which may explain the trouble I had there last summer. For more detail. I set the track up and get 19 POIs and triggers. On Friday it recorded 14 laps with video, perfectly. I used the same process: Mount the phone in the holder externally, press timer, press video, get the instructions that it will begin recording when I cross the start/finish line. I then head out to the grid, as I had done on Friday, and when I came in, I had a recording of my trip to the grid or nothing at all. Do I need to double check the the signal or triggers or anything else before I head out to grid? As I mentioned, I mount the phone behind me, and when I am strapped in, it is out of reach. Any help would be appreciated.

You really need to check trigger configuration and GPS situation every time you install your iPhone for LapTimer operation in your car. LapTimer needs to bridge the distance between the smartphone hardware, and reality outside. That's nothing an app can do its own, it needs you to take care. The only additional item I'd like you to check besides the two points above is you have set the detection corridor to either Normal or Wide. In case you do not get laps at all, go for a wider setting, in case LapTimer catches more triggers than it should, narrow the corridor.

Thanks Harry. I will make sure to double check all of the above prior to installing the i phone from now on. Just as a reaction to my experience, it might be helpful to new subscribers, who might not be too tech savvy, like me, to add some of this to the basic set up instructions on the app web page.

Thanks again. I really enjoy the app.
