Basic Lap Timing

Post by Racer27 »

I was just about to go out and purchase a Standalone GPS Unit for our Lemons/CrapCan Endurance Racer. These are $500 cars, which we try to race on Race Circuts for 24 Hrs. We are running NHIS, Monticello North, NJMP. Made no sense spending $300 on a lap timer for a $500 car in particular since many of us have IPhones.

Intially I am looking for something very simple... I want to mount the Iphone 4s, somewhere in line of sight to hopefully view big/bold laptimes. For example the team will radio in and tell me to run 1:52 laps. Without taking my hands of the steering wheel, would like to easily see the lap time so I can either speedup or slow don as needed.

Will your product do this without any add-ons? Will the laptimes be displayed large enough and in landscape where the numbers can easily read if the unit were mounted by he mirror or on dash? Can this be used on any track.... do I set the start/finish trigger anyplace on track that I repeatably pass lap after lap.

LapTimer features lap to lap comparison and will show you the difference at any point of the track (+/- time). So in case you have a reference lap recorded (1:52), further laps can be compared in realtime and will give you the support. Please note you need this initial lap recorded, not just as a number. So I'm not sure this meets your requirements.

The view you want to use in landscape (Timer) is not included in the Standard edition and but available as a 99 cent InApp purchase.

On the tracks question: both predefined tracks, and custom tracks are supported. Please check http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Trigger_Logik.html and http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Tracks.html for more details.

Thanks for the quick reply. Not sure I fully understand your reply, but pretty sure your application is sophisticated enough to do what I need. I'm looking for most basic laptime function/stopwatch functionality. I simply need to display the laptime for most recent completed lap on a closed course circuit. Time needs to m be big enough to read, hands free, from drivers seat. Anything it does beyond that (Recording data, video, lap over lap cmparision, etc) would be a nice plus.

Harry is saying that the basic edition + the in app $0.99 laptimer add on will do what you want BUT will require a lap time to go from.

Here is a screen grab of what will be displayed + description of the in app purchase description.

Hi Karsten,

Starting with version 17, the individual Add-ons are not available any more - it simply became too complicated.
To get the Timer view (and lots of other views, enhanced analytics, video features), you need to go for the Petrolhead Upgrade. You should see this upgrade in Tracks / Features section.
