Track day issues / notes with v16.0.3

Post by STiFTW »

Everything cooperated and I had a brilliant track day at Mid American Motorplex on Saturday with some good friends. I was very happy to get a chance to use HLTP in my new car, breaking it in on the track for the first time :)

I did have some questions / issues that I wanted to get help with after the weekend.

[s] First - I have the GoPoint BT1 OBDII plug, and while it worked properly in timer mode (my first few sessions), when I was recording in video mode in HLTP, none of my OBDII information was logged. I didn't realize this at the time, so I will try to re-produce and make sure it wasn't some other error, but something to be aware of. [/s]

Second - I used a pair of GoPro cameras as well, and combined the log data with DashWare to get the overlays, but I had a few problems.
- The segment times triggered lap splits in the DashWare software ... is there a way to disable segment splits and only get lap splits?
- DashWare is not reading the g-force data from the data file (currently working with their support on this, just wondered if there was a known fix)
- Anyone know if there is an option / gadget to post corner speed / straight speed within DashWare (the same way HLTP does)?

[s] Third - Is there a good way to export the entire video from a session, and not just per lap on the phone? [/s]

Thanks, I really appreciate the help ... to say this program is awesome is an understatement. Everyone I have been showing the videos to have been floored and want to know how I am collecting / overlaying all the data.

If anyone is interested, here are a few of the videos I have been working on from Saturday:

(shows weird lap splits)

Ok, an update ... had another race today and I figured a few things out.

First  I had turned on airplane mode to conserve battery ... and it killed my connection to the bluetooth dongle (duh).

Third - I see this is a requested feature.

Observations today ... when running on a really short / small track, the lag between the OBDII overlay and the data seems off (delayed) from the audio

Hi,

Audio and video will be in sync. So you need to adjust the alignment between video and data recording (which should be easy in DW). I do not believe this is related to short or long tracks, I believe you will simply be more sensible to misalignments if sections are shorter.

Thanks for your reports.

I am going to do some more experimentation, but here is what I am seeing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSWEq1VhcQE

Also, the DashWare data export problem was due to the semicolon in one of the title fields (for GPS). Once I cloned the profile and deselected everything except for the comma as a delimiter, everything works perfectly.

Hi,

Looking at the red segment in the RPM dash, there is something wrong with your vehicle definition. Can you please check the RPM values set for STi, or post some screenshots of the vehicle details in LT?

Thanks, Harry

Hi,

Either max power rpm or max rpm are wrong. The later must never be smaller than the first one...
Reading some specs (WRX STi 2008), the STi develops max power at 6000 rpm. The limiter triggers at 6700rpm. Furthermore it is recommended to have the shift flash at 5600 already. This would mean you need to enter the following data:

Max Power @ 6000 rpm
Max RPM 6700 rpm
Shift Flash 83%

Hope that helps. Please check the vehicle data again, revert your lap's video to raw, and re-run the overlay to check if things are really not well aligned.

I still need to tweak the numbers a bit, but I think I understand how they need to be set now. This is the latest dyno run on my tune.
