Newbie Question: won't run...

Post by Technomad »

I bought Laptimer Pro two days ago and tried to use it yesterday on a track day at Knockhill in Scotland. AFAIK, I'd set everything up (including loading the circuit data) according to web site documentation, clicked the "Drive Now" button when indicated and put the phone in the pocket of my jacket. However, despite several attempts, at no point did the app appear to record ANYTHING. Any thoughts?

And am I correct in thinking that the app doesn't background? If so, that's a real problem, especially for motorcyclists, when you want the logger running with the screen locked.

Running on iPhone 4S with latest IOS version.
thanks,
Richard

You have put the phone into your jacket, that's the problem. This will instantly decrease GPS accuracy to a level LT has no chance to find triggers. So on a motorbike, either mount your device to the steering rod, or add a BT GPS, mount it somewhere around the dash and place the iPhone in a save location.

Hmm - I'm surprised that just being in a jacket would do that, given that the device works fine in a car, inside a metal & glass cage. I'm just waiting for the new otterbox armour case for the iPhone - will try it again then.

Thanks.

I've seen plenty of this situations ;-) As LT records accuracy, just try it out. Go outside, wait until LT is at 5m accuracy or so, start recording (Classic View), put it in your jacket, wait, stop recording, and watch the result. Both leather and cloth jackets have a big impact.
