Lap Export Email doesn't have attachments (transferring phones)

Post by kryzak »

Hi,

I just changed phones (Android) and have v24.8.1. I went to "Databases->Backup" and created an .hlptrl email (it says "exporting LapTimer...hlptrl) and I received the email. But that email has no attached file, probably because I have 1410 Laps that's 368 MB large.

I tried to do "Local Copy", thinking I could just transfer the file to Google Drive and then download it to my new device, but I'm not sure where to find that file on my phone. I tried searching for "*.hlptrl" but don't see any files.

Any idea how I can get my laps over to the new phone?

Thanks!

Data from the export email:

This mail contains the following export files, large files are compressed using gzip:

Which mail client do you use? When exporting files, LapTimer creates the file in the temp folder of its sandbox. The sandbox is usually not accessible on Android (except the device is rooted).

The alternative is to use the Share function: goto Lap List and press the export / share button in the bottom. In the Export dialog coming up, select All laps and format hlptrl (only). Press Share to get a selection of targets, including Google Drive.

Hey Harry,

I use Gmail on my Android phone.

I did the export method and it looks like I was able to copy the file to Google Drive and download it to my new phone. The issue here is, I don't see any "restore" option in the app. I tried clicking on the file itself and chose "LapTimer" as the "open with" app, and all it did was open the LapTimer app and didn't do anything...

Please try opening it from Gmail. To do that, copy the .hlptrz file from Google Drive to a mail and send it to an account available through Gmail. Make sure the file has extension .hlptrz and not something added / removed during the transfer. Open the attachment from Gmail. We regularly test restores using Gmail. Android is inconsistent with app to app file sharing, so it is hard to make every combination working.

Unfortunately when I try to attach it, it says "the file you are trying to attach exceeds the 26.8 total attachment limit" and won't let me share or email via gmail.

Use a mail application not coming with this limit? You can use a desktop / laptop for this too.

Ahh yes, that worked. Sending it via desktop allowed it to be attached as a link and the LapTimer app read that file and loaded it. Thanks so much!

Quick side question. Is there a setting to keep the laplist by track collapsed by default or save my last state? Or if there's a way to not scroll through 1410 laps on the app every time I open the lap list, that would be very helpful! Thanks!

Track Set collapsing is memorized. But collapsing is not stored in backups or restored.

Oh nice! My previous device had a version that didn't memorize it, but it looks like the new one does now. Great addition and love the different highlights for each track day within the track lap lists! Thanks again!
