Android 12 and Garmin GLO loosing GPS connection

Post by filiphag »

Hi,
Had an great Trackday last Sunday but unfortunately the laptimer didn't work. have used the same setup before.

Samsung Galaxy S10 (Android12)
Garmin GLO 2 BT GPS
Odblink MX+ BT OBDII dongle

If I take up the GPS screen in se that the Fix Time field is lighting up orange about every 6th second, the time is not updated and after a few seconds it take a jump forward in seconds. the reported update speed is 4-5Hz

I have now done some investigation at home and found out the following.
  • I can se similar behavior in other GPS app on the same phone with the Garmin GLO2
  • I don't have the same behavior with internal GPS
  • I have tested on an Android 7 and 8 unit with good result 9-10Hz update freq in LapTimer with now dropout.
  • I have connected One Android 7 and one Android 8 at the same time towards the Garmin GLO2 with good result 9-10Hz update freq in LapTimer with now dropout.
  • One android 7 and the Android 12 device at the same time will result in dropout on both devices as in same way of the Android 12 alone
This far everything is pointing to that Android 12 update have made it useless (Think i got the Android 12 update during the winter/no trackday season). have seen some problem reports about Android 12 + RaceChrono + Garmin GLO2 but no solution.

Anyone else that have an Android 12 device and an Garmin GLO2 that can test?

Have all the tests been performed without the MX+ connected? I mean - does this occur when using a single BT device at a time or only while more than one is connected.

Yes the testing I did at home with Android 7/8/12 was with Garmin GLO2 as only connected bluetooth device, so it is not caused by the connection to Odblink MX+

I will try to see if I can get hold of an Android 11 based device.

Oddly it doesn't say what the cause has been... I just checked Android 12 release notes and found one addition permission to add. I have added it but doubt it is related to this issue. I will release a new version the next days.

I will test and leave feedback as soon as it is released.
It is very easy to test/reproduce.

But the Garmin Glo is paired in Android Settings / Bluetooth?

Yes it is Paired in Android settings, RaceChrono app can still access the Garmin Glo with ~10Hz

The Laptimer app is restarting when i was pushing the BT+ icon in sensors list, i was testing to change setting under expert settings and checked the Enable BT LE option, then it crached when I entered the sensor list screen after that change.
Now i can't even come into the laptimer app, craches on startup.
