iPhone 4S and 4 iOS 5.0.1 7+GB memory available.
Harry's LT PRO v14.4.2
Two different iPhones, two different users, same track. We both had problems with the overlay hanging while processing the overlay to video. The screen would show 63% at 6400 frames, as and example, and never progress further. The only way to get HLT working again was to restart the iPhone. When checking the video after restart, sometimes the overlay was successful and sometimes not (mostly not for my 4S).
It was very inconsistent. Some laps would overlay without a problem. Some would hang. It did not seem to be a memory problem as my friend was offloading his videos to a hard drive after every session, clearing his memory. Some videos would overlay without a hang, just after a restart from a previous hang.
Two questions:
1. What could be causing this issue and what is the fix?
2. When the overlay hangs, how can I terminate the overlay without having to restart the iPhone?
Thank you,
Jimmy

Re: Video overlay hangs, must restart iPhone
Hi,
First of all, this area will be (and actually is already) completely reworked in v15. In fact, if an error occurs during overlaying or library transfer, the 14.x versions 'hang' instead of bringing up an error message. In case the error is about video processing, you can simply send LapTimer to background (Home button), and bring it to the front again. This errors typically occur when you have other activities going on on your iPHone (like incoming messages, SMSes, etc). Another source for errors are problems in the GPS data recorded. Especially in cases the overlaying stops at a certain percentage, it will be a data error. In this situation it will not make any sense to retry, as it will repeat. To get LapTimer up and running without rebooting your phone, kill the process using the task bar (double Home button). I'm very interested in getting my hands onto recording that produce this kind of problem. So if you have a lap like this, please export it to .hlptrl and send it to me. Thanks a lot.

Re: Video overlay hangs, must restart iPhone
Thanks for the quick response.
I'll send you the lap the next time this happens. It sounds like you will be fixing it in v15?
It's worth mentioning that eventually the overlay was successful on a retry. It wasn't consistent with one video.

Re: Video overlay hangs, must restart iPhone
I'm running iphone4G with 1.9G free.
v15.0.3 Professional (May 2 2012 4:21:16 AM)
I have several sessions with video. I've been able to generate the "Overlay" video image for several laps however many simply hang immediately after selecting the "Overlay" button. The app hangs while displaying the Overlay settings. (button goes dimm slightly -- acknowledging action -- then hangs indefinitely). Going to "home" and zapping the app works but it again hangs. I've tried multiple laps with video now.. It worked for several (about 5 or 6) and now won't work at all for any of the remaining laps.
I'll send the .hlptrl for one of them.
btw, I recorded all this stuff with the prior version.. I updated HLT last night before starting the overlay process.. (again, 5 or 6 overlays worked fine).

Yes, please send the .hlptrl export for one of the laps that do not work. To make sure LapTimer is not disturbed by other apps requesting resources, you may reboot your iPhone ahead of the next overlay.

Harry, I sent the export to your email: Harry@gps-laptimer.de.
Restarting the iPhone has no effect.

Interesting. I had this problem with lap 6 after laps 1-5 overlayed ok. Resolved by rebooting iPhone and lap 6 now overlayed ok.
