Incomplete Lap recordings with iPhone 6 plus

Post by Rudy G »

Hello, I have been using lap timer for a few years now and I love it but the last 2 times I have had problems with it. The set up is a iPhone 6 plus with IOS 10.1.1 and lap timer Gran Prix Edition ver. 20.2.4. along with External GPS XGPS150 both are connected via a power supply while in use (USB adaptor in a 12V power socket) I use this set up for Lemons Endurance racing to record/display our lap times over a 8hr session.
The first time I had a problem was a Buttonwillow raceway in Southern California a few months ago. I have used this set up here before with no issues. This time the lap timer would not reset as we passed the start finish line. I had made sure the set up status showed "operational" before we went on track and it only counted total time after initially triggering the first time we passed the start finish. The next day it did the same thing, but this time during a pit stop I turned off the external GPS and that seemed to work. I was able to get part of a session to record correctly.
I used this set up again with the external GPS connected at Sonoma (aka infineon)raceway this last weekend and once again it triggered and started counting when we passed the start finish and correctly timed our first lap. Data from lap 1 of 66 shows Recording: Automatic, GPS Sensor: external @5.0 Hz, Fixes 855 (GPS, ACCEL), environment: Good, The second time we came around it did not reset at the start finish and went 23:10.82 before it reset at the start finish. A typical lap here is 2:20-4:00 depending if any yellow flags are encountered. (lots of yellow flags are common in lemons racing).
Lap 2 of 66 shows Recording: Incomplete, GPS Sensor: External @ 5.0Hz, Fixes 343 (GPS, ACCEL), Environment: Good. Splilt one time is actually about 45 seconds but the timer recorded that on lap analysis as 14:03.33 but when I review the video I can see the timer display does not show it completed sector 1, it just kept counting. I also forwarded the video to the 14:03.33 mark and once again nothing visually displayed on the phone to show sector 1 completed, no countdown either.
Note that video is being recorded by a gopro not controlled by the lap timer software. There is a clock in the car and the phone screen is visible in the video which is how I can verify the lap timer is not working properly.
I suspect this may be a problem with the i phone GPS itself but wanted your opinion.

Hi,

This sounds like the S/F trigger is not recognized with the XGPS150 connected. The 23 minute "lap" can get split into laps most probably - but let me see. Please export the named session to .hlptrl and send it to me (Harry@gps-laptimer.de).

Hi Harry,

Thank you for looking at this!
FYI the driver crosses the start finish at approximately these times:
Lap 1 4:17.51
Lap 2 2:39
Lap 3 5:25
Lap 4 8:01
Lap 5 10:21
Lap 6 13:01
at 13:36 the vehicle runs into the back of a stopped car and is badly damaged, It does not cross the start finish line again after that on this session.

Harry,

Did you get my email with the session data? No hurry on it, I just want to make sure it reached you.
