Can incomplete lap data be used to produce an overlay video?

Post by Paulxab »

When finish a driving session on the track, and exiting the course before passing the start/finish line, video continues to record until I manually stop the recording session on HLT. I would like to use that recording of the partial/incomplete lap to generate an overlay video and analyze my driving line for the final, incomplete lap, but HLT does not give me that option in the Lap List. Only complete laps are show under Lap List.

Is there some way to access the data from an incomplete lap in order to create an overlay video? Or is that data permanently purged from HLT when I manually stop recording at the end of a driving session?

LapTimer v19 supports full lap recordings only. Partial recording are purged to make all laps comparable. Starting with LapTimer v20, you will see support for incomplete laps. This laps will be marked as incomplete recordings and will not go to hall of fame and will not be selected as reference laps. But it will be possible to create overlaid videos or do data analysis.

Thanks for the explanation, Harry. I look forward to that new feature in v20!

I am using HLT Petrolhead V20.0.18 with Iphone 6 and Kiwi 3

recently I had an accident on track coming out of turn 1 of the circuit.

I would like to anaylze the telemetry so I can better understand the cause of the incident.

Obviously the lap was incomplete. When watching the video in lap list, the overlay data disappears when crossing the start finish for the final time.

Can I recover this data and overlay in HLT or an external software?

Also, does HLT record brake pedal activation and intensity and if so what PID is used?

LapTimer is no logger recording everything in a certain time range. Instead it stores laps - either complete or incomplete. Everything beyond a lap is not stored.

Braking is not mapped to the OBD standard. Data is certainly available on the bus but either not available for the OBD adapter or accessible using custom PIDs only. For analysis, please use negative longitudinal acceleration.

Thank you for your reply. In this case would this not be an incomplete lap? I passed the start finish and began another lap except I stopped between turn 1 and 2.

An incomplete lap is store in case you stop the "lap" manually, i.e. using the Stop button. Pressing the Cancel button - which should be the standard operation when returning to the pits with LapTimer still recording the cool down lap - will purge everything recorded since the last lap start. Or in other words: usually, you want to have complete laps only - any no incomplete introduction lap or cool down laps, use the Cancel button when back in the puts. In case you want to store an incomplete lap (because you crashed and cannot complete the lap, or for other reasons), use the Stop button.
