Accelerometer won't work in Landscape mode

Post by Just_me »

I have an iPhone 6S and HArry's. I use it on the track to record lap times, but more importantly, collect lateral acceleration and total acceleration data, and to overlay on video.

When i flip my phone to horizontal (for video), the accelerometers readout on the screen goes to full 1G, thinking down is left ( i believe, maybe right, doesnt matter).

When i play back the video, the bubble display for acceleration also shows constant vertical Gs, rather than the lateraland longitudinal ones I want.

Can you help? I cant find a setting. is it a phone issue?

LapTimer takes the device orientation into account provided you rotate it while standing still. When changing orientation while driving, the display will probably rotate, but the acceleration is not rotated. When rotating the screen while standing still, you will see the acceleration behave wrong shortly, but LapTimer will adjust it after a few seconds.

In case you acceleration is screwed up, there are several options to fix it. Firstly, you can rotate / flip adjust acceleration in #
  • LapTimer ‣ Analysis ‣ Lap List ‣ any lap ‣ Data Recordings / Preview ‣ Charts ‣ swipe to G-G
In case you can adjust it using the buttons provided, you can recalculate acceleration from GPS. To do this, follow

thank you harry. I will try both. I set the orientation stationary in the paddock. Its somewhat mysterious, some runs record properly. They rarely display properly in real-time while driving. Ahh well.

I thought this would be easy but.... no

first, i think i finally found the "buttons" - I assume they are those small blue graphics overlaid on the plot?

They are not 100% clear. I expect two flip horizontal and vertical, another tow rotate left and right?

I have tried to press them and they do nothing.

My data for this run is a cluster of points on the at (x,y) (1,0) - in other words at the origin, on the 1g mark to the right.

Again, "buttons" do nothing at all. No response.

OK, correction to my above

The buttons sometimes do something. The flip horizontal moved it to (-1,0). All others did nothing or made little difference. This says to me that the only real data collected was that of gravity. Why?

Also, even if true, a rotate should have moved the cluster 90 degrees, btu did not. I rearranged a few od the dots in the current cluster location.

In case you have one spot of acceleration any flipping and rotating will not help. Please recalculate acceleration instead (see above). Rotation is done in single degree steps. Your case occurs for devices rotated while driving or with a wrong individual calibration. The issue occurring for most users is the device is not rotated towards the driver in exactly 25 degrees as required. This will slightly rotate the acceleration - which can be adjusted by a few degree rotation.

For the full story on acceleration handling, please have a look into the respective document available from www.gps-laptimer.de/documentation
