Issues in Charts/Graphs

Post by ckowalc »

I noticed a couple of issues while analyzing data in HLT v20.0.14,
  1. If you have selected a lap from the "Laps Bar Chart" to view details then go into the "Lap Bar Chart" again you cannot select (press) another lap.
  2. Speed vs. distance graph for reference lap is not correct. I noticed when comparing an incomplete lap to a complete one that it scaled the distance of the reference lap to the current lap (see image below)

Hi,

On 1) Yes, this is blocked to not get into a recursion - which doesn't work technically and is irritating for users too.
On 2) For incomplete laps, reference comparison does not work. While LapTimer chooses full laps for Best / Last reference laps only, it should actually remove the reference comparison in charts for incomplete laps too.

Harry,

1) I figured it would reset when you looked at a new lap. For instance, if I select a new lap and go to the lap bar chart again when I press back I figure it would go back to Lap Details and then press back again it would go to the Lap List. It's not really a big issue just something you have to get used to. Also, I noticed when you are in the Lap Chart and select a few laps and close them (not go into details), then select a lap and go into details and into the Lap Chart again, then press back a couple time to get to the previous Lap Chart it pops up with a bunch of windows. I realize that probably didnt make sense I'll have to make a video. :P

2) I'm guessing the feature that removes the reference comparison isn't working because it automatically pops up with the reference lap when I select "charts" on an incomplete lap. I assume speed vs. distance graph comparison automatically scales both laps to start and end at the same point? I understand for complete laps the distance should be very similar but I could see there being an issue when comparing different driving lines particularly in autocross (or small courses). I think scaling the reference lap would make the time gap invalid? Its actually starting to make my head hurt

On 1) Yes, video please. :-) On 2) Removing the reference lap for incomplete laps is not implemented currently. I have added it to my list for future updates. Lap to reference lap comparison assumes start and end points are the same - correct. Other than the predictive lap timing option, it does not do a nearest point analysis for every position of a lap but just scales the x axis.

Is the nearest point analysis for the Speed vs. Distance chart on the "wish" list as well? It seems like that would be much more accurate way to see which driving line is fastest however hard it may be to implement.

Here is the video for pop-up window issue in #1, not that big of a problem in my eyes but seems like it may be a small bug?

It will be more accurate in case lines driven are very different and distances recorded differ a lot too. As all the functionality is available already, it is not about effort to spend to use the probably better position based comparison - it will just be incredible processing intensive for higher update rate recordings...

Harry I noticed the software allows an incomplete sector to be used to calculate the virtual best lap in the Lap Chart.

I got black flagged my first lap and "cancelled" my recording about halfway through the last sector. So now when I review the Lap Chart the "Virtual Best Lap" bar is using the incomplete 3rd sector to calculate the virtual best lap. It seems the Lap Details page has the correct virtual best time though. See below.

Yes, possible. The laps chart has its own logic and probably needs a fix. I will add it to my list.

I have an issue. If I am in the speed @ distance view, I had the impression I could touch a point on the graph and get detailed information for that point. However, I don't. In fact I cannot get anything like the little table in the docs to appear no matter what I do. Has this been eliminated from the current version?

Both cursor (shows information on a specific fix) and double cursor (shows differences between two specific fixes) options are a LapTimer GrandPrix feature.
