Hard wired gopro hero4 and wifi
Hard wired gopro hero4 and wifi
Hi
I am trying to set up my car with constant power to XGPS, Gopro Hero 4 and the HLT on Ipad min2.
I have allt the wiring done but I cant seem to get the wifi on the hero4 to work while connected to 12V. Running on battery only works fine but as soon as I connect the Hero 4 to 12V I seem to loose wifi and the autostart from HLT to Hero 4 is lost. Has anyone else this problem? I could just buy more batteries but it would maka more sense to get it to work with externa source...

Re: Hard wired gopro hero4 and wifi
Hi,
When connecting a HERO to a computer using a USB cable, it will turn off standard operation (probably including WiFi, but at least any recording activities) and switch to client mode for downloading videos to the computer are receiving updates etc. It will power the battery too. Opposed to this, when connecting the HERO to a power station providing current only (no data connection like for the PC), it will continue working an charge the battery at the same time. It is a lot like using it for a DJI drone - it records and gets powered by the drone battery.

Re: Hard wired gopro hero4 and wifi
I am not connecting the hero 4 to a PC but the 12v power of the car, that is why I am finding it so strange...
Re: Hard wired gopro hero4 and wifi
So it is probably a special wiring required for the USB port. I tested it with a power block and it worked. Please contact GoPro on this, they should be able to answer.

Re: Hard wired gopro hero4 and wifi
I am trying it on the bench and it seems to work, I will get back to the car and se if there is something wrong with the wirering or maybe current output of the usb converter.

You beat me to it

Re: Hard wired gopro hero4 and wifi
Is your car's USB plug a preinstalled one or a 12V connector? Preinstalled ones may come with data wiring for car audio etc.

Re: Hard wired gopro hero4 and wifi
It is connected directly to a 12V cigarett lighter socket.
Re: Hard wired gopro hero4 and wifi
I just realized that there are two options. The one I used is the usb connector on the sida of the camera. The second option is the battery eliminator port on the back. I will probably try to pick up a battery eliminator cable and see if that works better...
Re: Hard wired gopro hero4 and wifi
I used the one on the side with the power pack. Same for the DJI drone.
