Autox time accurate, but video is starting 2+ seconds late.

Post by fwman1 »

I have been happy with the product and support, but have not been able to sort this one issue. I set my start, then quickly walk and set my finish. I use the starting line option, rather than standing start. We start about 20 feet from the actual timing start line and pass it at speed. I run a Qstarz 10hz gps enhancer. From the accuracy of the timing of the runs vs our timer setup, it appears HLT is reading the start and stop correctly. Why does my video not start for over two seconds? I'm quite a ways into the course by the time I get any video at all.

I tried to manually start my video in my afternoon runs. It captured about 10 seconds of video and then shut off. Lost all my afternoon runs due to this, as I thought I was recording and could trim the video later.

I appreciate any help. I did search, but didn't find anything that seemed to be working (not working) in this manner.

Autox time accurate, but video is starting 2+ seconds late.

Video started automatically is indeed always late for the first lap if a session. The system requires 1 to 2 seconds to get everything available. Especially for standard starts, mixed mode recording should actually work fine: start video manually while staging, do your run as usual, stop video manually once you have finished. To understand the problem you ran into with this, please post your system information.

I just remember we had a similar problem report (using video recording in mixed mode) on this forum. I will try to reproduce he issue but will require some time. Btw. LapTimer stores data persistently at the end of each lap. So when losing more than one lap, there is probably some database problem around. Please try the Check Data function from the bottom of Lap List and make sure you have enough free storage.

I was not clear when I said I LOST my afternoon runs using manual video start. I did get videos, but all were ended about ten to twelve seconds into the run, so I got no complete videos of my afternoon runs.

I believe I have plenty of storage, but will verify. Thank you.

I misunderstood your lost runs, as long as lap data is available everything is fine. I will come back on the video problem.

Wanted to come back on the video issue in mixed mode. I tried to reproduce the issue as follows:

- Defined a simple "track" with distinct Go and Stop triggers, approximate length 1 minute
- Started Video recording manually, started driving while still in video view
- Passed Go trigger, button changes from Stop to Cancel [which is expected behaviour as automatic recordings can be cancelled only]
- Passed Stop trigger, get a message not to forget to stop video recording manually, button changes back to Stop
- Press Stop, video recording stops

Doing this, I find two "laps" with the same video associated. The first one is the distance from the point I start video recording manually to the Go position, the second one is the distance from Go to Stop. The video starts at the position of manual start and extends beyond the Stop position.

No crash.

So the question is: is there anything I did different to what you did? What exactly?

Sorry for the delay in response, I work a 12 hour shift an hour from home, so could not work with this till the end of my work week.
I appreciate your follow up!

I spent this morning attempting the same issue. Here is what I got. I set a new autox on my block. I set a start and set a stop 1/2 way around the block so I'd be as far away as possible when it triggered off and moving in a different direction (diagonally across from the start). I ran a 'run' with automatic triggering and it worked as expected, along with the lag at the beginning. I then turned on my recording prior to my second cross of the start. It appeared to work correctly, showing sony camera on, cancel button, and showing a trigger as I crossed the starting line, and a stop when I crossed the finish. I then stopped the recording. The odd thing is my sony recording begins at the finish line and ends at the start line. Here is my question. Is the signal to start/stop recording on the sony software the same signal? It almost behaves like when it gets the signal, it turns recording off if it is on, OR turns recording on if the camera recording mode is off.
I'll go out and duplicate your posted procedures again this evening to get a 1 to 1 comparison.
