OBD/Gauge screen

Post by rolorex »

Hi Harry,
First - I have been a user of Laptimer Pro for a year now and love it! It is the most comprehensive yet easy to use app I have ever used and it is an invaluable tool on the track. So thank you!

Now to my question/feature request. Background; I am using laptimer Pro with the TomTom dock and Kiwi wifi OBD
I have found that it is critical for me to see some of the OBD info while on the track. The current Speedo display does show some very valuable info with the OBD Wifi attached (RPM, HP, Gear, etc). However, would it be possible to create a Gauge display for on-track use? Basically show RPM on the top half of the display (just a bit smaller than the current speedo display) and have 4 or so other customizable OBD guages that can pull info from the Kiwi wifi similar to how you can cycle through the OBD info on the GPS display. And one additional request; would you please add boost to the list of info you can view from the OBD? Fully understand that this app is focused as a laptimer and not OBD reader, however I would find this additional functionality very useful to view on the track.

Thanks for a great product!

Hi,

Thanks for the kind feedback :-)

I'm not clear in the layout and content you're describing. Is this a change to an existing view?
May I ask you to send some kind of sketch to better understand? Thanks.

- Harry

Thanks for the quick feedback!

After some additional thought - perhaps this idea could be accomplish with a slight modification to the existing Speedo/RPM view. Basically the 3 information boxes (Current Lap, Power, Gear) displayed at the bottom of the RPM/counter view are pre-set to their current configuration. Would it be possible to allow the user to specify the info available in each of these boxes by "tapping" to cycle through several options? For example, I might set the existing Current lap, Power, Gear to instead show Current Lap, water temp, boost. I am thinking that if you could allow the user to select the info in each of these boxes similar to what is done in the OBD box located in the GPS view.

Thanks again!

Hello Harry,

I support rolorex's request for gauges for the OBD data.

My proposal is to add separate views at least for the most relevant OBD gauges (which are coolant and oil temperature, in my opinion). I'd prefer a similar design for the gauges as you already have implemented for the 'speedo' view. Adjustable scales for the gauges would be perfect, however, fixed scales would also be fine (e.g 70°C to 130°C for water and oil temperature).

Best regards,
Michael

I agree that this is a good suggestion. I've been using the Rev app for OBD diagnosis. That app contains customizable metrics.

I'd love to be able to customize a screen that allows me to add wheel speed, water temperature, and other metrics to the current "Timer" screen. My speedometer broke this past weekend at a track day, and it would have been nice to have a wheel speed metric available on the screen to see how fast I was going!
