Add Oil Pressure to Data Logger?

Post by SunnyDayDILYSI »

Wondering if there is a way to add an oil pressure sensor (or other sensors beyond the OBD2 and iphone) into the lap timer.

Oil pressure is no standard OBD II PID and not supported currently. Most cars will have that data on their buses, some will make it available through OBD using some custom PID (mode 22 mostly). To support this value, both LapTimer would need some enhancements for custom PIDs and someone would need to share the information for the specific car (this information is not public).

Thank you Harry. I realize that the market for folks like me is likely small. However, I'm really getting into the sport and I love the idea of being able to leverage the investment in my phone while on the track vs buying another thousand dollar computer that is just dedicated to track work. I'm also a Big Data guy. Being able to add a variety of sensors (oil pressure, tire pressure, tire temp (I,M,O), brake pressure, throttle pressure, atmospheric conditions) would be awesome. I wonder if there are any racing equipment vendors out there who would partner with you to make a portfolio of sensors to plug and play (I understand this would take some wrenching to install the sensors)? I'd like to take the opportunity to thank you for what we have today. It is an incredible tool that has helped me to drop several seconds off my lap times over the past three years and to share the experiences with my friends and family. Cheers.

This tool is already available: ASL's RaceCapturePro/MKII You can add both OBD (which is simple) as well as individual sensors. They are working on custom PIDs too. So far it is available for BT connection only (Android or jailbroken iPhone), but I hope they will add WiFi support to. LapTimer supports it since v19 (GrandPrix).
