Need Noob Help, Android (Nexus 5)

Post by jd1639 »

I just got the app, Petrohead version, and need some help. I haven't been to the track yet and am trying to figure out how the app works.

In portrait mode I can get calibration to calibrate but in landscape all I get is the red calibration. Is that normal?

If I understand correctly, for video I want to be in landscape?

How do I turn on video recording? I get the video recording button with the red x thru it.

The only option I've used so far is the "Start Driving"

Sorry for the noob questions but some help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Video is landscape. To enable video recording in addition to data recording, press the blue Video button in Timer View (landscape(!)) and stay in Video View while driving. Next, mount the device in landscape and check if the acceleration shown in the bottom left circle is centered. If not, touch it while the device is mounted to let calibration start over. NB: GPS is required to let calibration progress, so often it will not work in a building or similar.

I'm just working on a new quick start guide, I'm happy to see all items you raised will be addressed :-)

Thank you Harry for your response. I must be blind because I don't see the acceleration in a bottom left circle. I'm in landscape, all system status are green except calibration is red and of course nearby track is red because I'm not at a track.

It is in Video View (the view showing the video field of view with a preview of some dashboard gadgets overlaid to).

Ok, I'm beginning to think it's something with the nexus 5. All the views are in portrait mode and will not rotate to landscape. I tied it on my nexus 9 and views rotate. However I did the in app purchase to go from rookie version to petrolhead and on the n9 all I can get is the rookie version, it's asking me to pay for the upgrade again.

Please check if you have an orientation lock set (depends on the device). LapTimer blocks orientation while driving, so please do that while standing still. For reloading in app purchase, make sure you are locked in with the Google ID you used for the initial purchase. You will not be charged twice for the same Google ID.

Thanks Harry. It was user error on my end. Some where along the line the n5 got set to stay in portrait. It's all making a lot more sense to me now.
