gopro auto start/stop at wrong position

Post by RossDagley »

Last trip to the 'ring, everything works fine EXCEPT the video of laps (bridge to gantry) auto starts about 100 yards too late (past bridge), and ends about 300 yards too soon (before gantry). Being 300+ yards out I think it's more than a GPS issue.

GoPro 3+ BE.

Setup was gopro in wifi mode, using internal iphone 5s GPS. Internal video recording for picture in picture, with gopro video as main video source.

I've now upgraded to a XGPS160 so hope to eliminate any GPS issues (as using the iphone GPS the data points on the video are poor for the 'ring, even with wndscreen suction mount holder).

What might have caused this?

The early stop is due to the early stop trigger set for the current Nordschleife BTG track set (both start and stop triggers are clearly ahead of the "correct" positions). As written here on the forum, this has no relevant effect on full lap times (they compensate each other) and is kept to not void existing recordings.

The late start is due to the startup time of the cams - both internal and external cams require around 2 seconds to start recording when asked. T work around this issue, check the "Mixed Mode" item in Video Documentation available from www.gps-laptimer.de
