Hit or Miss on Auto Record

Post by llan981 »

HLT has been a godsend in giving me the detail to improve my line and overall track experience. What seems to happen from time to time, I do my usual setup:

1) GoPro BE 3+ behind my seat 1080P 30FPS
2) IPhone 6 on the windscreen cabin facing 720P 60FPS

Then on the iPhone on the settings menu:
1) check the wifi setting is set to gopro
2) check bluetooth an check both gopoint BT1 and Dial XGPS160 are connected

Then on HLT GP 18.3.4:
1) I load the program
2) start driving
3) video pull up menu comes up
4) I check warning screen with All good except calibration
5) press start driving auto

All seems "ready to go." When I finished the session, I had a 34 min session with 1 big lap recorded. Lap data shows about 12 laps and 68 datapoints. Seems to me, the Dual stopped sending or it may never sent!!

Note: The Dual had 40% battery life so it was up and running.

What am I doing wrong.!!! Are there other crosschecks I could have done?

There are (again) reports on issues with Bluetooth connections and drops for iOS8.0.x. Both Racelogic and Gopoint reported on this issue on their web sites. I have received a small number of reports too, but couldn't see it myself. Let's see what happens on Monday, iOS8.1 is expected to get released then. In case you are still on track, I'd suggest to use it without the XGPS in case you do not get a stable connection.

OMG. Will this ever stop. Hopefully all will settle shortly. I am also hopeful, the multicam app will be IOS 8.x compliant for my next event on 31 Oct? Am I dreaming or will it happen?

Yes, it is a pain. I have ported the MultiCam app to iOS7 and 8 already and plan to submit it soon. There is one issue I wait for a reply by Apple - metadata stored to auto assigned MultiCam footage to laps is not stored in iOS8. One can Re-Link as a workaround, but it would be nicer without that flaw.

For multicam, if the IPhone is set to 'Never lock" will the multicam ever timeout for any other reason (general iPhone setting to "never" lock) ? I recall a situation we were on a "track hold" due to debris on the track. After the session, it appeared the multicam timed-out. If multicam is turned on and recognized by the master-cam, then it should always work, right? If I set multicam once for the weekend and attached it to a power supply, will it just continue to work session by session with out any intervention?

Had same problem. First session no external devices, no video but all laps successfully timed. Second session, load gopoint, dual xgps 150 and gopro 3. Warning check shoes no calibration but all else look fine. Timer view showed with 1 twenty min session, wouldn't recognize start / stop points. No laps recorded. May turn off BT devices and try with just gopro.

llan981,

You should probably add checking the GPS page to see if the update rate for GPS and OBDII are correct before starting.

the GPS and OBD was connected on the HLT page and said all connected and GREEN except for the one block "calibration" which normally self-corrects once you drive down a straight line. So I was amazed when I finished the 34 min session and had one big lap. My only suggestion would be if there was a drop of a critical bluetooth component, e.g. GOPOINT BT1a, then in realtime it falls back to the iPhone GPS at 1Mhz.

Calibration and OBDII (BT1A) have nothing to do with trigger detection. That's entirely GPS. In my experience, you need to see that the update rate is correct to be sure that GPS is working, and that's most easily available on the GPS page. If the app thinks the external GPS is working but no actual data is being transmitted, it won't drop back to the internal GPS at 1Hz, not 1 Megaherz.
