Trouble with getting recordings and with overlay

Post by tsmith8605 »

I am having problems with Harry's Lap Timer (HLT).

I have an iPhone 4s with iOS 7.1.2 with 64 GB of memory and 30GB plus available.

I tried HLT Petrolhead twice:
1. Sonoma Raceway (SR) on Aug 2, 2014
2. Thunder Hill (TH) on Sept 27, 2014

I had the most update version of HLT and updated to 18.3.4 on Oct 4. I was not using any external data devices, only the iPhone GPS.

I have two problems:

Problem 1. The software does not always overlay data for multiple laps into one video correctly. At TH on 9/27, I recorded 3 consecutive laps and when I overlay them individually, I get 3 good videos with correct data, but when I try to make one 3-lap video, it gives me the first lap but at the end of lap one, the data (speed, acceleration, track position) all freeze and show the end of track one data for the duration. The display says I go from lap 1 of 3 to 3 of 3 at the end of lap 1 and shows 3 of 3 to the end of the video (3 laps of video are shown).

At SR on 8/2, I managed to record 4 20-minute sessions with 27 total laps and had the same problem on some, but not all, of those sessions. In the Session 2 movie at 9:44 seconds at the end of lap 11, the data freezes for the remainder of the video and the display changes from lap 11 of 27 to lap 14 of 27 although the video looks right (shows laps 12, 13 and 14).

The session 3 video at SR does not have this issue.

Those videos are available for download here http://www.dropbox.com/sh/ffyvbxvo71md8 ... J9qga?dl=0 if you wish to see them.

Problem 2: At T-Hill on 9/27 I ran in 5 20-minute sessions but was only able to record the first 3 laps of first session. I was not able to record anymore sessions. The automatic record software seemed confused when I exited the track before the start/finish line on the last lap. On the first session, after some time in the paddock, a dialog popped up saying that the recording was continuing and asked if I should stop it. I did stop it with that dialog and so got the first 3 laps. On subsequent sessions, I could not figure out how to stop the video once back in the paddock. I did not see a button anywhere and could not see a way to exit because the software was still trying to record. For one of the failed sessions, I just used a cancel button and that seemed to cancel and erase the whole session. I did not see a clearly marked "stop and save" button.

I really don't know what went wrong and I did not have this problem with 4 sessions at SR on 8/2 when the automatic software worked as advertised. Maybe there is a problem with the new map data for T-Hill (the 5 mile course is just a few months old). On the first session for which I got 3 laps of video, I incorrectly used the T-HILL 5MI Bypass map but after that selected the correct T-HILL 5MI with cyclone map and did not get any video after that.

I will be at Laguna Seca this coming Friday (Oct 17, 2014) and hope everything works correctly there.

Thanks,
Terry

Hi,

Thanks for reporting.

On #1: that seems to be an issue that occurs in certain data constellations. I have received a sample by another user that will allow me to fix that issue in one of the next updates.

On #2: to stop recording when back in the pits, please use Cancel. Cancel purged the open lap (cool down lap), but not laps completed before. Video recording will be stopped.

Harry,
Thanks for the response. Will try this at Laguna Seca and see how it goes.

Thanks,

I had the phone in airplane mode to prevent in-coming calls from going on the car's speakers during track laps so no GPS. DUH!!
