Feature request: Movie style "clap board" to sync data

Post by vincenzo »

Sorry if this has been requested before.

I'm syncing my Harry's data to my GoPro video in post-production using RaceRender.

What would be great to have is some sort of visual & data signal to serve as a "clapboard" like they use in movies where they'd normally sync up separately recorded video and audio. (But in this case, it would be to sync up separately recorded video and data.)

With the wifi enabled GoPros, I think this could be possible. At some point in the data put a marker and then in the video file add the same marker (or log the timestamp of the video at that point.)

That'd make syncing up a little easier.

If there is a way to already do this, then I apologize. I'm on a GoPro hero2 with no wifi so I haven't explored what capabilities are available for the wifi enabled GoPros.

For LapTimer GrandPrix (iOS) an automatic synchronization is available already. Other than synchronization to MultiCam iOS devices, GoPro sync uses heuristics to make the sync. This means you sometimes need to add a small adjustment. MultiCam iOS fully synchronizes system times between devices and will generate by far better sync usually.
