How to overlay
How to overlay
Hi
I'm new to this. Used the laptimer successfully on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit on Saturday. But when I used the video feature, it only plays back the video, without the overlay of the circuit diagram, lap time etc that you see on the screen when it is actually filming. Do I have to do something to put this data back onto the video?
Thanks

Re: Housekeeping Videos
Yes, creating an overlaid version is a calculation intensive process and needs to be done "offline". To create the overlay, select any lap you recorded video for from Lap List (laps with video are marked with a small cam), scroll down to the Video section, and press "Overlay". Select options and extend to multiple laps from the dialog shown and start overlaying.

On some of the laps that I video'd, there is no camera icon showing. On others there is that icon, but in the vid section it has a large NO by a cam icon and when I click "overlay" it says invalid master video and master missing?

Re: How to overlay
[I have created a new topic as it is not related to "Housekeeping Video"; please take care to either reply to existing threads "on topic", or create a new one]
Please post your full configuration information and the scenario (devices / cams involved, views shown etc) you used during recording. NO VIDEO means the video linked by LapTimer cannot be found on he device. This can happen if the video has been recorded using an external cam but has not been transferred to the phone, or if storing the video failed due to missing storage memory.

Re: How to overlay
Thanks Harry
I was using an iphone5 mounted on the roll bar, went into HLT app, and used it for monitoring lap times successfully. Then (still within the app), went to the video feature, it shows what the camera sees but also shows the circuit diagram etc and says it will start automatically when I drive off. It has recorded the lap times, shows the vid symbol against them, it has recorded the video but I think disassociated from the driving data

Re: How to overlay
In case it is a lost association, please try: Lap List -> Lap -> NO Video -> Video Details -> Re-Link
This will bring up the list of videos available and you can select the one matching. However, what you describe sounds more like the video has not been stored.
Possible reasons and work arounds for the future:
- memory shortage
- incoming calls (forward calls to mailbox in Settings -> Phone)
- notifications shown as alerts (change to Banner in Notification Settings)

Re: How to overlay
Hi, did you planning some simple software for overlay in PC (Windows)? I´ve got Petrolhead version in Xperia P (2Core 1GHz + 1GB RAM) phone, but overlay process runs with SW decoder, so it´s very slow and take very long time (2min30s of video about 20-30minutes) to comlete. Standard PC would be better because it has more power than the phone and would not have the capacity problem if the phone has no memory card (also my problem, I´ve got only 16GB internal memory).

Re: How to overlay
Look for Trackvision, Dashware or Racerender - all three are Windows tools to do overlays on PC using the CSV export file from Laptimer.

Re: How to overlay
I know these applications, but it seems to me unnecessarily expensive and complicated for ordinary users, such as photoshop. 98% of users use only the basic functions. HLT is quite simple easy to use phone, so I think that a lot of people appreciate and like simple application for PC

Re: How to overlay
Maybe you should think about switching to Apple in the future. Hardware accelerated overlaying works really fast and Harry already talked about an OSX App in the near future...so Windows won't be getting any love in the near futurePitrsRS wrote:I know these applications, but it seems to me unnecessarily expensive and complicated for ordinary users, such as photoshop. 98% of users use only the basic functions.
