Unable to open the laptimer video (Car crashed in mid-lap)

Post by shazmoh »

The car was crashed while lap-timer video was being recorded. I got out and quit the laptimer app, while it was recording. Now when I tried to open in the app it says "Can't play this video". I copied source video to my mac and tried to open it up using VLC and it's throwing the below error message:
No suitable decode module
VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf".
(Screenshot attached)

Source video file: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/159 ... 114720.mp4

Any pointers to retrieve the video could be of great help.

This looks like the video is unusable and misses some information players need to display it. The VLC alert is probably true "Unfortunately there is no way fro you to fix this". Although VLC uses ffmpeg as underlying basis for video processing, you may try this package. Search for "ffmpeg binary download" and Google should show you some hits.

Not sure how the app has been quit... When the iPhone is turned off, it will typically quit active recording sessions. This will result in cut, but not corrupted files. The best way to handle this situation is to manually finish video recording (by pressing the Stop button in Video View or by pressing Cancel in Timer View).

I missed to add this info earlier: The device is Nexus 5 and video container is MP4.

I found a video repair utility as mentioned in the below link and was able to successfully retrieve the video. 8-)

The audio is out of sync though. I have to find a way to correct it.
