What do i need

Post by Belching Piglet »

I am looking to get the Pro version for my ITouch. Do I need to get a GPS dongle and also which OBD system is recommended.

I plan to use the system in Malaysia but am confused with the different GPS and OBD add on's. I will have to order the items from overseas so would like to get it right.

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

My current recommendation is:

iPod touch
Harry's LapTimer Professional
Emprum UltiMate GPS
Luxa2 H5 mount

On OBD dongles the recommendation is not as clear. The KiwiWifi seems to be the least expensive one, the OBDLink WLAN produces 20% higher update rates on the other hand. Not really significant as the update rate on most modern cars will still be higher than the GPS rate (5 Hz).

Not confirmed so far. The only route to a BT OBD device is through roqyBT / roqyOBD which requires you to jailbreak your device.
To get around jail breaking (which is my general recommendation), you need to go for a Wifi based OBD device.

Having trouble finding the ElmCan II Wifi. Any other recommendations ? Can it work with the OT 2 from Innovate motorsports ?
I need to find a OBD2 that works with Itouch and Harry's laptimer pro. Also the scanner needs to be able to reset the check engine light. I need to monitor my MAF sensors (2 in my car ) as I am having problems with them. Appreciate any assistance.

Hi,

Compatible OBD devices are listed here: http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Compatibility.html
The OT-2 is not compatible currently, I recommend either the OBDLink or the KiwiWifi.
Finally, LapTimer's OBD integration is focussed on values relevant for track data recording, it is not a full OBD tool.
For your scenario, I'd recommend one of the OBD apps around.
