Regularity features

Post by thomas8 »

Hi,

I’m wondering if there are any plans to extend the HLT products to cater to regularity events? It seems like this is a big niche in the iOS app market.
I recently started attending some just for fun regularity events with no car/aid restrictions and usually drive without a co-pilot. An app to "replace" the copilot would be absolutely great.

Some events require me to drive a known predefined route at a set average speed (e.g. 18km @ 64.5 km/h) and it seems to me that the HLT GPS engine would be more than capable to indicate accurately wether I’m driving too fast or too slow.
It would be so great if one could prerecord the route waypoints via driving or manually on the map, then enter the desired average speed, sector time, arrival time or whatever and just drive with HLT indicating the correct speds.

I own HLT Grand Prix but couldn’t really make it work for my purposes. The only use case I have for it is when I’m driving a regularity event based on a reference lap on a local racetrack, because I can sort of use the split times to get close. Everything else seems a bit hopeless because I would have to drive a 100% perfect reference stage (like the above mentioned 18km @ 64.5 km/h) as data to compare to.

The Harry’s GPS/ODB Buddy Trip-menu indicates an average speed which is nice, but it is clearly not meant to calculate the time left to the last waypoint while passing through all the other recorded waypoints on the way there. I also couldn't find a way to export waypoints recorded with GPS buddy into HLT GP... the fact that GPS buddy is free makes me think its supposed to be a demo rather than anything that can be used, even though it has the trip functionality that I miss in HTLGP.

So well, are there plans to add another product like "Harry’s LapTimer Regularity"?

You can define sets of POIs (named Waypoints) in GPS Buddy and export them (create a Waypoint set, add Waypoints, select he Waypoint set in the Waypoints View, and press Certify to create a mail; send this mail to yourself and open it in LapTimer). The fundamental difference between Buddy and LapTimer is the former allows you to define "marks" you can navigate to, while LapTimer has triggers doing something actively (like starting a lap). Waypoints in Buddy are regular Information POIs in LapTimer.

More regularity support is on my list. Actually I have collected a lot of requirements already... Can't say anything on the schedule however, there are many other items too :-)
