So I'm a newb to all this and I'll apologize in advance for what I'm sure is going to be a newb question.
I just bought a GoPro Hero 3+ Black that I want to use for my primary video. I plan to run HLT on my iphone 4S. My concern though is that I have very little storage available. I've cleared out some things and have about 1gig available on the phone. I've got a track day this Saturday and will be doing 4 30min runs.
With the PetrolHead and Grand Prix versions, my understanding is that you cannot turn off video recording. I'm talking over my head here but I believe I read in the documentation that you can set the GoPro video to be the primary video and use the iphone video for PIP. I'd be ok with that, but even at a 480x360 resolution, I'm figuring a 30 min video would use around 500mb. In short, I'd run out of storage in just 2 runs.
Not to mention that once I'm out of storage, I won't have the capacity to render the data overlay, right?
On the subject of data overlaying... am I understanding it correctly that I have to overlay each lap individually? If I have a 30min video with say 10 laps, can I not overlay the data to every lap in that video all at once?
Should I just get the Rookie edition of HLT, and not synch to the GoPro? What could I use to overlay the data afterwards?
Any suggestions?

With 1 GB of free memory I'd recommend to use LapTimer for data recording only and operate the GoPro manually. Given the contingencies LapTimer demands for available space, overlaying will not really work - even for one lap (you need to have the complete raw recording on your device...).
Starting with v18 LapTimer overlays an arbitrary number of consecutive laps, so no limitation here any more.
Nevertheless, I'd recommend to opt for Petrolhead instead of Rookie as it offers several addition views and functionalities beyond video recording and overlaying. And there is always a next phone
To overlay LapTimer data to GoPro footage on a Windows PC, I recommend Dashware or TrackVision.

Harry,
Thanks for the information and recommendations.
With the Petrolhead version, won't I still have the same problem with the video recording? Or can I use PetrolHead for data without recording video?

With Petrolhead you both record with and without video. It has everything Rookie had plus lots more.
