HELP! Vehicle deleted - data lost

Post by Ranger144 »

Unfortunately I think I already know the answer to this question but here goes....

I was updating the vehicle's stats (redline, etc.) in the Vehicle List section and, seemingly by pushing a single button just once, deleted the vehicle and all associated lap data. No "confirm delete" popup or anything. I just accidentally touched the button and poof - all gone.

I just can't believe it. I lost an entire weekend of track data before I could get home to back it up.

Is there a way to restore this data???

Thanks for any help offered.

HELP! Vehicle deleted - data lost

There is no undo function here... However, I'm not aware there is a delete function in the vehicles area that deleted laps! When deleting a vehicle, this vehicle is deleted and all laps recorded for that car get the Unspecified vehicle associated. Will check that later, but it should not delete the laps. Please check Lap List, maybe you have filtered the list to show only laps for the car deleted?

UPDATE!

Harry, yes you are correct. I had filtered for my car and thus, when deleted, no laps were visible. When I took off the filter, the laps reappeared. Thank you for your support. I have enjoyed using your quality product.

I would suggest including a "confirm delete" popup in future releases (a two-step process) to avoid the hassle of re-entering car data and then reassociating the car with the laps.

Thanks again!

Seems I have missed that one. I thought I had added this type of deletion alert to all functions in v17.0...

On a related note, have you considered a user/vehicle db "in the cloud"? For various reasons, I switch devices relatively often and it would be fantastic not to have to respecify vehicles (and related expert settings such as pid exclusions) each time.

This is arguably a variant of "vehicle deleted". An extension could be a crowd sourced reference vehicle library with stock weights, gear ratios, power, etc.

Thanks for all your efforts!

Yes, that is planned already. Like with the tracks database, this is planned as a crowd source approach. I'm not yet clear how to maintain this database in a valid state without a personal quality assurance like I do it for the tracks database. Maybe a wiki approach...
