Hello Harry,
First of all, congratulation for your nice piece of software !!!
I am a motorcycle racer and use it to record my laptimes and watch them after a run.
I also use a Gopro to record the video.

1. Video overlay export
I would like to be able to export the video overlay corresponding to my laptimes directly from HLT (without having to use a special software like dashware, racerender, ...)
As a Mac user, this will allow me to import directly the Gopro video and the overlay video in iMovie or something similar and make my video.

2. Cache maps background
When I am riding in foreign countries, I do not have Internet connection. It would be nice if you could cache the track area (satellite view).

3. Trainer : Apple plans background
Same thing here, for the iPad app.

4. Trainer : import other format
I would love to compare to my friends who have Racechrono for example.
Would it be possible to add new import options?

5. Trainer : ability to take notes on track !!!
This is a killer feature I think. It would be really nice to add notes about driving directly on the curves.
It would help to learn a new track, not only by comparing to other riders, but also making comment and modifications on how you drive, what are your landmarks, how they evolve from one run to another...
All this notes helps to build a mental representation of the track and to run faster each time.

6: add car/bike settings support
Offer the ability to add suspension / ecu / ... notes on what has changed from previous run (if nothing has changed >> display the settings from previous run

8: add a data logger mode to place the start/finish line after the first run
Add a data logger mode, so that we can record data during the first run and put the start/finish line after the first run (in motorcycle, you can't add it while you are racing).
Another option would be to detect automatically where is the best spot to define a start/finish line (usually in the straight line)

7: (long term) develop an interface modul to connect sensors (suspension travel, TPS, brake sensor, ...)
It could a simple iOS <> serial connector, linked with a microcontroller.

I think that is all I have in mind for the moment.
I would be happy to discuss them if you have questions (and because my English is far from being perfect !!)

Hi,

Thanks for your proposal. Some thoughts and comments:

#1 is on the list but will most probably not make it to a release soon. I'm currently investing considerably into LapTimer's overlay functions (stay tuned for v17 ;-) ) reducing the number of users needing external overlay programs again.

#4 have you asked the RaceChrono folks to offer a .hlptrl export ;-)

#5 / #6 is an interesting one. I plan to offer a "Tuner" edition in the future allowing all kinds of recordings, notes, vehicle trim settings to be recorded. Adding a more sophisticated notes capability would fit into that quite well. You are aware LapTimer allows notes by lap already? Not sure this feature is used very often.

#8 A kind of data logger mode is available already. Just start recording manually to record an arbitrary plot. You can start and stop in the pits. The manual recording is available in Classic view (and can be enabled for all Timer views in LapTimer's Settings). As the tracks database is huge, I tend to not prioritize track setup options too high.

#7 The Kiwi allows addition of optional sensors (see daisy chain). What is currently missing is a configurable option to select data requested from OBD devices. That's on my list too.

Thanks again for your thoughts :-)
